As a Dispersion Development Chemist, you will develop new solventborne and waterborne pigment dispersions; impacting OEM, Industrial & Refinish paints and coatings and more. You'll utilize experimental design to develop dispersions in accordance with business unit specifications and project requirements. You'll work with colleagues to evaluate processing of designed formulas and test samples generated from scale-up work. The work you do will directly impact the simplification of color platforms across PPG globally!
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with various business unit development groups to understand their needs and how to match these needs into new products.
* Work in conjunction with Coatings Innovation Centers and/or other functions globally on product development.
* Plan and conduct experimental work such as the formulation, preparation, scale-up and testing of pigment dispersions integral to new product development.
* Analyze and interpret experimental results relative to the development of new and improved product.
* Grow an understanding of other business units processes including details of product and final usage. Utilize this information in the research and development of robust products.
* Understand and grow knowledge around numerous dispersion technologies/equipment to develop robust products.
* Develop new test methods/ working practices that will help to accelerate the developing of new products to increase the speed and success rate of product launches.
* Build and maintain a network of professional relationships with major raw material suppliers and with technical teams in all regions to communicate progress on projects and understand future needs.
* Maintain and communicate results through written and verbal summaries, coatings reports and gate review updates.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree chemistry with minimum five (5) years coatings development experience (preferably including waterborne coatings end experimental design).
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-functional team in an agile, fast paced environment.
* Good time management and prioritization of project work with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
* Ability to travel up to 20%
