Job Description:
* Mechanical Engineer to perform design, development, analysis, and manufacturing tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision space structures and mechanisms in a program team environment
* Program support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material and finish selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and detailed design, design sensitivity and tolerance analysis, design documentation, Bill of Materials (BOM) management, and assembly/integration and testing
* Candidate must have strong proficiency in 3D modeling, design for manufacturing, and ability to work independently or within a multi-disciplined team environment
* Works under general supervision. May be responsible for entire projects or processes within job area. May be responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area. May manage projects at this level with responsibility for the delegation of work and the review of others' work product.
* Manages day to day operations and scheduling of machine shop and technician tasking established by engineering and determines resources needed to meet demand
* Identifies potential process improvement initiatives in quality, efficiency, output and capacity
* Collaborates with Process Engineering and other departments as necessary to ensure an optimal and complete process package for every job
* Documents and establishes production standards and modifies, adjusts, and corrects existing standards to incorporate engineering changes in accordance with company business and quality systems
* Supports fact finding and troubleshooting methods to resolve and prevent errors
* Works with Process Engineering to improve total cycle times
* Work in a safe manner and in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
* Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company
Essential Functions:
* Solid foundation in engineering concepts with the ability to work within company business and quality systems
* Strong English communication skills including strong technical writing skills and willingness to write. Must be able to create and write clear and detailed records and documents.
* Strong computer skills and must be able to work within ERP system
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a keen attention to detail
* Strong leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills are necessary to enable individual work with all positions and personalities
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years experience in manufacturing with an emphasis on machining, labs, and complex technical processes. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
* 3+ years of technical leadership experience
Preferred Additional Skills:
* Working knowledge of optics, fiber optics, and computer technology in order to function in field of fiber optic communication
* Able to read and interpret prints and drawings including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Proficient in the use of GD&T; and measurement tools.
