The JPMorgan Chase Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the firm and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the firms lines of business and corporate staff areas. The successful candidate will be a member of the Chase Consumer Bank (CCB) Cross Line of Business Marketing Legal Team, which provides dedicated legal support to almost every CCB line of business in all areas of marketing and communications, including the digital, social media, and print advertising channels. This attorney position requires the ability to conduct critical analyses, with a strong sense of sophistication and judgment, and provide alternative solutions when necessary. The successful attorney must have excellent oral and written communication skills, superb people skills, the ability to understand new areas of law quickly and meet the needs of a demanding and sophisticated client group, and the flexibility to manage a wide range of assignments simultaneously. The position also requires the ability to coordinate with legal and non-legal staff to provide sound and practical legal counsel in complex situations that arise in a fast paced and high-volume environment.
The selected applicant must be able to:
Develop subject matter expertise in assigned areas and provide strategic and practical legal advice
Collaborate with other functional partners to ensure appropriate awareness of issues as they arise and assist in resolving matters and driving forward initiatives
Advise and collaborate with colleagues across the Legal and Compliance Departments
Handle escalated matters, projects and initiatives from various operational areas, including areas that have firm-wide and cross line of business coverage
Monitor and advise business partners and legal colleagues on relevant legislative and regulatory changes
Assist the CCB businesses (with an emphasis in the Card Services, Consumer Bank, and Home Lending lines of business) on marketing of products, and advising on regulatory issues;
Review marketing claims and substantiation;
Participate in various control, compliance, and risk initiatives from a legal marketing and communications standpoint;
Work with the business to implement changes responsive to new federal and state legal and regulatory requirements as interpreted by staff attorneys
Qualifications
JD admitted to practice in and member of the bar in good standing in the state in which the candidate will practice; must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment
5+ years of legal experience in a large consumer banking organization, law firm, or equivalent, such as relevant experience in government, law enforcement or a regulatory agency, representing such organizations with a demonstrated record of increasing responsibility
Knowledge of applicable consumer finance/marketing laws is required, including the Card Act (Reg. Z), Truth in Lending (TILA), and Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) issues, with a working knowledge of Reg. DD and RESPA;
Knowledge and understanding of banking products and services such as credit cards, rewards programs, and checking and savings accounts, and the relevant core banking regulations and regulatory framework for a large banking organization such as JPMorgan Chase preferred;
Experience with digital, electronic and mobile banking and transactions is preferred
Team player with a natural ability to think and act collaboratively with legal and non-legal colleagues and stakeholders across lines of business
Strong decision-making skills and ability to multitask and effectively manage multiple matters and projects simultaneously in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
As a trusted legal advisor, foster and maintain strong client relationships with the ability to see past the question, and understand and communicate greater impacts or risks
Excellent analytical skills and judgment, including the ability to interpret, explain and apply statutes and regulations, and applicable case law
Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills
Spanish language skills desired
