Senior Manager- Commercial Credit Officer

Capital One is seeking an Industry Commercial Credit Officer with a background in real estate finance. This candidate will be part of the Credit Risk & Analytics (CR&A;) organization, operating in a high-profile environment. The position is primarily responsible for portfolio management activities, and secondarily to provide support to the front-line Credit Officer in the risk assessment activities related to new production as well as modifications and renewal of existing loans. The candidate will evaluate annual reviews in order to assess existing and upcoming risk factors, confirm the appropriateness of recommended risk ratings, confirm action plans and make recommendations when appropriate, and communicate risks outside of normal parameters to the front-line Credit Officer. With regard to new transactions, renewals and modifications, the candidate will exercise allocated credit authorities. When outside of specific lending authorities, the loans will be sent to the front-line Credit Officer and/or credit executives with higher credit authorities for approval. For loans sent on to higher credit authorities, the candidate may be asked to provide an analysis and recommendations for the specific request.

The primary objectives of this position are to ensure that commercial loans within the assigned portfolios are within expected credit parameters, comply with policies and procedures, contain appropriate action plans, and are appropriately risk rated. The primary portfolio coverage is Community Finance, Agency and Agency Warehouse Lending.

On-going Portfolio Management:

- Continuously monitor the credit quality of each transaction in the portfolio, and overall portfolio quality trends.

- Ensure annual reviews are well-documented and risk ratings are accurate and are based on a forward-looking view.

- Identify deteriorating credits and take appropriate action to mitigate risk; Partner with Special Assets team to transition troubled accounts as needed

- Collaborate with the Business as a Subject Matter Expert on regulatory and/or compliance requirements

- Work with the portfolio analytics group within CR&A; to develop discrete reporting on portfolio metrics.

- Communicate individual and general risk issues to the front-line Credit Officer.

Risk Assessment (within allocated credit authorities or in support of the front-line Credit Officer):

- Identify the key historical, and future, credit (and non-credit) risks related to a specific transaction

- Develop a well-informed and forward-looking view of the business

- Evaluate the inputs and results of cash flow and valuation models under expected and stressed scenarios to determine the sustainability of the cash flows/values and acceptability of the sources of repayment

- Provide front-end structuring guidance to business partners and negotiate acceptable solutions that prudently balance risk and return

- Be a Strategic Partner with the Line of Business

- Pressure test credits for recession resiliency

Manage Credit Approval Process:

- Ensure all credit exposures and deal renewals/amendments are approved in accordance within existing policies and procedures, both internal Underwriting Standards and external regulatory guidelines, and are appropriately risk rated

- Review Credit Approval Memos and approve a credit structure appropriate for the risk profile of the Borrower; Provide credible challenge on each transaction approved

General Responsibilities:

- Continuously monitor the existing portfolio through individual transaction assessments, and general portfolio monitoring programs.

- Participate in Relationship Planning activities and contribute to the assessment of existing and proposed exposures.

- Participate in periodic reviews of the commercial lending portfolios under their purview with the Underwriting and Asset Management staff, including vulnerable assets rated watch, and monitoring delinquent loans.

- Within allocated authorities, review and approve loans on a transactional and relationship basis with policy exceptions identified and mitigated.

- Reviewing and approving overdrafts, operational credit exposure, and the ongoing monitoring of Credit Agreements, etc.

- Serve as a credit thought partner to the First Line.

The Person

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of commercial real estate financing experience.

He or she will have experience understanding and underwriting, structuring, covenanting, risk-rating and pricing simple and complex commercial loan transactions. The individual should have completed formal credit training, have a thorough understanding of credit principles and have mastered the technical requirements of analysis. Other than technical proficiency required, the candidate will most importantly be expected to exhibit good judgment in decision making. Candidate will be pro-active and constructive in making credit decisions and will be able to influence others with fact- based insights. The incumbent will provide a credible challenge to others in the credit decision process with a style based on mutual respect.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree

- At least 3 years of experience in commercial real estate finance

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree with a major in finance or business

- Proficient with credit principles and loan structuring

- Proficient with the technical requirements of analysis

- Proficient with advanced analytical concepts and prior hands-on experience

- Working industry knowledge of commercial real estate

- Completed formal credit training
