Position Summary
As a member of the Operations team supporting the Hawaii Region, the Project Manager will report to the Senior Vice President of Operations with additional responsibilities supporting Business Development. The Project Manager will primarily be responsible for the successful management of complex commercial-scale solar projects from early in the project timeline (pre-construction planning) to final closeout. The Project Manager will ensure projects are completed according to the approved plans, within the allotted schedule and budget, and successfully commissioned and closed. He or she will serve as the Owner or Customer representative and carry out the duties required by the EPC contract. The Project Manager is expected to manage up to five active projects in construction while simultaneously managing business development activities in Hawaii. He or she will participate in client meetings, feasibility assessments, ensure jobsite Safety and Code compliance, participate in plan reviews, contribute to discussions on material selection and specifications, and collaborate with all internal departments to facilitate successful projects. The candidate will be required to do frequent short-term travel to project locations across Hawaii as well as travel to Safari offices in the continental US.
In support of Business Development, the Project Manager will work closely with the SVP of Business Development on analyzing new markets, tracking sales data and reporting. The Project Manager will oversee the development of proposals, bids, quotations, or other documents describing solar system and battery storage offerings and services in response to requests from prospective clients. He or she will collaborate with members of the Business Development, Project Development, Marketing, Engineering, Design, Finance, Operations and Legal teams to ensure content is complete, accurate, timely, and compliant. The Project Manager will recommend enhancements to the organization's products or services based on inquiries from prospects and may give input into developing the budget. He or she must be capable of solving issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
Primary Responsibilities
Project Management Responsibilities include:
* Review, execute, implement, and enforce Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts and General Construction (GC) contracts
* Represent Safari Energy as the Hawaii Responsible Managing Employee (RME) operating under the Safari General Contractors license
* Obtain and close permits and approvals (whether through contractors or directly)
* Manage construction compliance with Engineering Designs and Quality Control standards
* Where necessary, field supervision of labor, civil, mechanical, and electrical trades
* Coordination of utility interconnection and system energization, including inspections and approvals
* Commissioning and Closeout of project
* Implementation, Enforcement and Reporting of project Health, Safety and Security program plans, practices, and objectives
* Create and maintain project milestone schedules and budgets
* Coordination of equipment and material procurement and delivery
* Project recordkeeping, Daily reports, Material Purchase Orders and Delivery tracking
* Schedule and attend all municipal and utility company inspections
* Schedule and attend all customer and contractor meetings
* Manage and resolve issues that occur during the project timeline
* Coordination with and assistance to Safari Client Representatives
* Identify and implement process improvements related to plans, specifications, standards and installation agreements with the goal of continuous improvement
* Establish, maintain, and improve relationships with contractors, suppliers and installation trades
* Work to identify best practices, opportunities for value engineering, opportunities to reduce cost
Business Development Responsibilities Include:
* Create an RFP library that supports the solar and energy storage business in multiple markets
* Recommend enhancements to the Companys services based on inquiries from prospects
* Analyze and interpret RFPs and provide guidance to proposal team members, including opportunity lead, project finance lead, project development lead, engineering lead and all other subject matter experts, regarding deliverable requirements
* Determine the appearance, format, style, and standards of the proposal during the proposal planning phase
* Develop and manage proposal outline/compliance matrix and templates throughout the proposal development process; coordinate these items with the deal team
* Develop proposal narrative based on interviews with subject matter experts, contract staff, and/or boilerplate documents
* Develop and manage proposal schedule, to include milestones and deadlines for writing, editing, pricing, review, production, and submission; enforce deadlines among proposal team
* Track all proposal team writing, editing, pricing development, and graphics development
* Perform comparison analysis between RFP and amendments
* Edit documents for grammar, spelling, factual accuracy, and clarity according to style guides and standards
* Lead regular strategy/status meetings to track proposal progress, determine action items, and develop concepts for proposal content; assign and follow-up on action items
* Format documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher, and Adobe Acrobat according to RFP requirements and proposal format and styles
* Coordinate and perform proposal production, including printing, copying, and binding proposals; and provide timely submission of all official proposal deliverables
Candidate Qualifications
Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications
Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a rapidly growing company. In addition, the Project Manager must possess:
* A Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related industry experience
* 5+ years of industry related Construction Project Management
* Has obtained, and maintains in good standing, a Class B General Building contractors license with the State of Hawaii Contractors License Board
* Ability to serve as Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for Company licensure activities
* Familiarity with Electrical Systems, Civil Construction, and/or Roofing systems is a plus
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and assist the team with MS Dynamics
