Description:

Engineers at Kimberly-Clark work as members of the Global Nonwovens Research & Engineering (R&E) team to develop and implement new products, processes, materials, or technology concepts. Slitting, winding, web handling, and roll handling are fundamental to the bottom-line performance of Global Nonwovens. The development of high-speed processes, delicate laminates, extensible nonwovens, elastomerics, and high loft webs is needed to product development and converting performance top line of Global Nonwovens Business partners. Currently, we are seeking a Process Engineer with 3-10+ years of industry experience in the web handling field for process development and commercialization in the Global Nonwovens Sector in Roswell, Georgia.

Position Summary:

The process engineer for this role will provide guidance and leadership in process development, optimization, problem solving with commercialization of creative materials where the physics and applied engineering principles of Web handling and Winding are in scope. Specific projects will relate to how nonwoven webs move, are wound or unwound on either a nonwovens asset or the converting machines of the businesses who purchase roll goods from the Nonwovens sector within Kimberly-Clark. Candidates should have experience across Global Nonwoven or Business Unit technologies, and a demonstrated ability to effectively interface with a broad range of team members, global customers, manufacturing partners, and Business Unit Leaders. Ideal candidate will show willingness to learn and broaden exposure to into this unique & critical area of web handling. The role reports to a Team Leader and receives direction in the form of specific project and/or sector objectives.

Responsibilities:

* Lead process development projects through commercialization, including process design and equipment selection to deliver desired customer/user benefits, product specification and machine performance targets, collaborating across functional areas to deliver on time and within specification
* Build capability in the web handling space using multiple means such as off-site training, mill visits and spending time with internal web handling subject matter experts
* Plan and carry out project responsibilities with limited assistance and direction
* Seek, recognize, define, and solve problems to achieve unit objectives
* Assess complex web handling technical issues to determine root cause and develop/recommend solutions
* Challenge organizational norms and capabilities to consider new and different innovation opportunities, approaches and methods
* Support Web Handling Process Engineering activities for capital asset expansions. Activities include process specification development, operations and engineering training development and execution, author process checkout plan, lead PCO activities onsite for asset startups
* Communicate and document project plans and results to key customers
* Provide protection to technologies, processes, materials, and products through appropriate use of patents and trade secrets
* Deliver on key material and process development, commercialization, and customer programs, globally
* Employ scientific methodology, 4 step problem solving, engineering principals to deliver process, OEE, material attributes

Qualifications:

* Candidates possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree. Mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited college or university is preferred but not required
* Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a variety of technical and operational
* A demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects within required timeframes
* Schedule flexibility, as the role requires average of 25% travel load
* Experience in capital asset build/install/start-up, optimization

Preferred Qualifications:

* Strong project management skills
* Experience and expertise with Kimberly-Clark products, procedures, and processes
* Strong customer facing interpersonal skills in technical and business settings are highly encouraged
* Manufacturing and Converting experience with nonwoven processes in a plant assignment is desired
* Understanding of key equipment manufacturers, and how their products can meet our needs in the web handling space
* Lean 6 sigma certification desired
