Your Role and Responsibilities
Electrical Engineer in Tape Storage R&D. The individual will be expected to design, analyze, test, and resolve problems in IBMs tape drives as integral part of the IBM tape development team.

This position is located in Tucson, AZ.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

* Engineering skills to learn the fundamentals of magnetic recording.
* Engineering skills to learn the integration of the tape drive recording channel with an emphasis on the interaction between head, media, and tape transport.
* Data analysis skills to derive good and bad signatures of operation. Basic understanding/skills in coding to work with firmware development to improve drive optimization and diagnostic capabilities.
* Interpersonal skills to work with all factions of a multi-disciplinary team to understand problems and develop plans to resolve. Skills in design of experiments to find and recreate problems found in test and the field.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

* Understanding of the fundamental engineering principles of electromagnetism
* Experience in programming languages, coding. capability to write and execute scripts to automate testing and data collection
* skills with applications such as excel, MS Word, and engineering tools such as Matlab
* Electrical circuits and design
* Communication theory
