Job Summary

The Gas Operations Technician I position is an entry level position responsible for working with the Gas Operations III level position on the operation, maintenance, and construction of Dominion Energy South Carolinas natural gas system. Duties include: responding to pipeline damages, repairs and replacements to below-ground gas pipelines and fittings, working in conditions where natural gas is present, responding to customer calls/concerns, completing customer meter orders (blocking, unblocking, pulling meters for testing, painting meters, conducting zero use and high bill complaint investigations), performing above ground leak repairs, performing underground line locating, conducting leak survey and atmospheric corrosion surveys, performing valve maintenance work, and conducting odorant checks.

In addition, Gas Operations Technician I will go through the Gas Apprentice Training Program, a four-year program involving training courses and Operational Qualifications (OQ) which includes electronic testing and hands-on testing. Continuous advancement and OQ in the training program are required. The successful candidate should be driven towards graduating the program and the Technician career.

This position will work out of the Abbeville District Office, Abbeville, SC.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

* High school diploma or equivalent and 2+ years work experience, or
* Military Service Members/Veterans ranks with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 and 2+ years work experience
* Must be routinely available for call out or emergency situations and be able to work overtime.
* Must live within 25 miles from assigned work location.
* Must have the ability to read and apply applicable procedures, document compliance activities, and wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in hazardous environments.
* Must be able to work in trenches and excavations with mud and water, cutting or joining pipe both inside and outside, using a jackhammer and other heavy equipment to excavate sites for street construction, continuous standing, sitting, or walking, climbing ladders, crawling under houses and in attics, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and/or driving 6 to 8 hours daily.
* Must be able to lift up to 24 pounds repeatedly throughout the day and occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience and knowledge with natural gas pipeline construction, operations, maintenance, repairs, or hot tapping & stopping operations.
* Experience working in underground utility construction or maintenance
* Experience with underground line locating
* Commercial Driver's License (Class A) obtained

Education Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.

Must be able to obtain Commercial Driver's license (Class A) within six months of start date.

Other Working Conditions

Requires working in outdoor environments on and around construction sites as well as indoors. Some travel may be required, both regionally but may also include travel to other business units outside of the region. May be called upon to support emergency response and to be on call to provide support to local operations or the Gas Business Unit.

Physical attributes required to perform essential functions of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending, lifting, and prolonged standing.
