What you will be doing

Our Managers within Benefits Strategy play a vital role in ensuring we deliver a best-in-class package to our 300,000 team members. In concert with the VP, our managers focus in on specific areas of benefits which may include time way from work programs, LOA and disability management, OR a focus on health and welfare plans including medical and prescription plans.

This role will be based near one of our divisional offices: Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, Pleasanton, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Boise, ID, Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, Philadelphia, PA or Boston, MA.

Core responsibilities:

* Acts as subject matter expert for a set of vendors/plans; able to understand and clearly articulate claims trends, develop strategies for cost mitigation, analyze current patterns of program usage to evaluate effectiveness, ensure adherence to contracts.

* Manage vendor contracts, develop performance guarantees (PGs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and manage RFP/RFIs.

* Act in a consulting-type relationship with internal/external partners to share knowledge, drive strategy decisions, and make recommendations.

* One role may require specific expertise in medical and Rx plan management; one role may require specific expertise in leave/disability/time off/wellbeing.

* In partnership with Corporate Communications, develop editorial calendar to communicate benefits to associates using various methods of communication to drive engagement; may write and edit content. May create and lead benefit education webinars.

* Work closely with data analytics partners to understand trends to predict future needs.

* The Benefits Strategy Manager supports the benefits function in the strategic design, evaluation, implementation and on-going management of health and welfare programs initiatives, including analyzing current patterns of program usage to evaluate their effectiveness from a cost, process efficiency, and utility to the employee perspective.

* The Manager acts as a subject matter expert, driving informed decisions on contract negotiations and vendor management, including ensuring ongoing adherence to contracts. This exciting and important role will be integral in setting the overall long-term benefits strategy for a fast paced, large, best-in-class organization.

* Provides recommendations to management for plan or provision modification or expansion, or may identify a new benefit that would support the overall goals and objectives of the benefits function.

* Evaluates status of current programs to identify cost-savings and to ensure employee satisfaction.

* Based on data trends, evaluate and suggest new programs and pilots to manage cost containment and cost avoidance. * Manage and review program metrics and ROI results. Make plan recommendations based on results.

* Lead other ad-hoc projects and perform other responsibilities as required.

We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:

* Bachelor's degree required. Relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable

In 1939, Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, took $5,000 he saved and $7,500 he borrowed from his wife’s Aunt Bertie, and partnered with L.S. Skaggs to open his first Albertsons store on 16th and State Streets in Boise, Idaho. Joe knew the keys of running a really great store, and it was all about working hard for the customers: give them the products they want, at a fair price, with lots of tender, loving care. Joe was innovative, too. He had one of the first in-store magazine racks in the country along with a scratch bakery and fresh ice cream made in-store. He worked hard, seven days a week, on his vision to build his company, and through his inspiring work ethic and tireless
determination to run the best store, the first store thrived. Just two years later, he had opened two other stores in neighboring communities and grew the fledgling company’s sales to over $1 million by the end of 1941.
