Job Description: Yard Control & Traffic Clerk

Summary/Objective: The Yard Control & Traffic Clerk is primarily responsible for controlling Yard access per existing Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), Safety / Security procedures, and to support the completion of various Yard management functions.

* Verify and document the identity of in-bound shipment carriers and drivers. Confirm load security, seal integrity and coordinate container / trailer drop locations with the Receiving office.
* Confirm that all out-bound loads and trailers / containers leaving the facility are authorized, secured, sealed, and accurately documented. Verify all empty trailers and containers.
* Be observant to timely recognize and report seal discrepancies, failed trailer inspections and other exception conditions when they occur. Timely escalate issues for resolution with supervisors and management as required.
* Effectively and professionally communicate instructions and requirements to 3rd party carrier and contractor personnel.
* Communicate with the Security, Receiving, Shipping teams and management to coordinate and direct in-bound / out-bound trailer activity and yard management movements.
* Provides accurate updates to Shipping and Receiving Department shared electronic files to include, but not limited to Trailer and Yard management logs, SLAs and PKMS.
* Partner with Receiving and Shipping Teams to maintain an accurate Yard inventory.
* Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

* Experience with office computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite. Specifically: Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to learn PKMS.
* Must be able to read, write and comprehend instructions, e-mails and other correspondence in the English language.
* Communicate effectively with Supervisor(s) and Manager(s).
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.

* Effective mathematical skills required.
* Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
* Effective organizational and prioritization skills.
* Ability to be detail-oriented.
* Ability to operate a variety of standard business machines such as: computer, keyboard, calculator, fax, and photocopier.

Preferred Skills:

* Proficiency in the use of warehouse management systems.

Work Environment:

* The noise level in the work environment may be loud due to tractor-trailer traffic.
* Variation in heat and cold temperatures.
* Work safe area requirement due to moving tractor-trailers and other vehicles.

Physical Demands:

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision.
