The Gene Therapy group, which is part of Pfizers Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is focused on furthering the application of gene therapy for monogenic diseases by developing IND-approved vectors for testing in clinical trials. The Associate Research Fellow will manage a group of 6-8 laboratory-based scientists and partner closely with Pfizer vector production group in North Carolina, RDRU Biology group in Cambridge, and colleagues in other Pfizer disciplines who are contributing towards the development of this therapeutic modality.
Role Responsibilities
* Lead a group of scientists to deliver AAV-based clinical candidates for the treatment of rare genetic diseases.
* Partner closely with Pfizer vector production group at North Carolina and Rare Disease Biology Group in Cambridge, MA to progress new gene therapy projects toward IND.
* Partner with other disciplines of integrated drug discovery and development, especially biomedicine design, pharmacokinetics and drug disposition, Drug Safety, Regulatory, and Early Clinical Development, to develop translational preclinical packages for gene therapy clinical candidates.
* Hands on experience with AAV vector design and relevant cell based assays and in vivo models.
* Foster a culture of scientific excellence and innovation and build synergy with various partner lines.
* Assess state of the art technologies and collaborate closely with internal and external experts to expand gene therapy applications.
Qualifications
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
* Ph.D. in the life sciences with at least 8 years of post-doctoral experience in gene therapy.
* Experience in progressing AAV-based therapeutics and direct experience with state-of-the-art technologies applicable to gene therapy, particularly in oligonucleotide design and vectorizing RNA.
* Strong scientific background in rare diseases preferred.
* Significant external scientific influence within the gene therapy field, with publication of primary research results in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals and national/international scientific reputation.
* Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively while contributing to multiple projects, thrive in a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team setting; highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
