We are currently seeking an experienced Materials amp; Processes Design Engineer. This individual will be part of a diverse team of engineers and support/lead various test efforts, data analysis activities, engineering document updates, and production issues as they arise. The primary work location will be at the Promontory or Bacchus, Utah campus.

Role description amp; Responsibilities:

The Materials amp; Processes Design Engineering group is a collection of technical experts in the behavior of materials and their production. The primary accountabilities are:

* Design support for a Motor VSO with focus on design fundamentals and correct incorporation of material requirements
* Principle investigator and contributor for test efforts involving live materials and processes, including troubleshooting and problem resolution
* Program Materials and Process Plans and associated documentation
* Resolution of material obsolescence issues and evaluation of replacements
* Recommended design/material changes to address legacy production challenges

Job Duties:

* Define and manage requirements for rocket motor materials and processes
* Define test objectives, author engineering test plans, prepare test reports, and provide oversight for test activities
* Development, qualification, execution, and on-going support of new test specimens and methods as dictated by program needs
* Manage program level M amp;P requirements including requirement compliance verification and material wavier justification
* Provide MRB support and disposition as needed to maintain production or testing schedule and ensure compliance with test requirements
* Coordinate with functional organizations (component design engineering, project engineering, process engineering, quality engineering, analysis engineering, program management, procurement, research and development laboratories) in the development and implementation of inert materials
* Represent the M amp;P discipline to internal customers, external customers, and team members
* Coordinate peer reviews, analysis, project status, and customer reviews
* Ensure work product and deliverables comply with requirements and standards
* Primary interface will be with R amp;D scientists, Test and Research Operations, Process Engineers, Quality Engineers, Structural Analysts, Ballisticians, program leadership, and cross functional product teams that support NASA, DoD, and commercial programs.
* Travel expectation of lt;5%

Qualification

Experience Requirements:

* Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering or related field.
* Knowledge of solid rocket motor and production, including related manufacturing processes
* Hands-on experience with production processing or laboratory testing
* Demonstrated team leadership skills ndash; formal leader of classical engineering function/discipline and/or significant technical projects or investigations (UUEC), and management of multiple developmental program tasks to schedule and budget

Experience Preferred:

* Involvement in system requirement verification and validation activities
* Familiarity with material obsolescence and vendor process change evaluation and qualification
* Knowledge of M amp;P engineering design, R amp;D, analysis, test, and manufacturing processes
* Previous team leadership experience, and hands-on design and/or analysis
* Experience with NASA, commercial and strategic programs and configuration management requirements
* Chemical processing or solid material handling
* Must be able to obtain a security clearance

Education/Certifications

* BS degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Material Science Engineering, Chemistry or Physics with 2 years of experience or MS with 0 years of experience.
* Requisition can be filled at higher level BS degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Material Science Engineering, Chemistry or Physics with 5 years of experience or MS with 3 years of experience.
