The Business Manager role in Substrate is a highly collaborative and visible position that requires extensive cross-group coordination at all levels and the ability to manage high volume, high impact work. The Business Manager is responsible for driving operational excellence and
spend management. This individual will shape and improve our business operations. The role is responsible for day-to-day interactions with the M365 Core leadership and organization along with partner organizations in Finance, HR, GTA, Operations, and others.
We are looking for a passionate individual with strengths in business analytics, project management and execution, communication, collaboration, and leadership. The Business Manager will manage a team of Business Admins that support the operational heartbeat of the Substrate engineering and program management teams. This position requires an individual that proactively seeks success and understands how to get things done at Microsoft, leveraging interpersonal and collaboration skills to influence change required to deliver business value. You must have experience in strategic planning, project execution, building relationships, and working with executives at all levels. You must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, outstanding cross group organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication, proven project management skills, and be a motivational self-starter.
* Drive the ROB and execute the strategic communications plan for the Substrate organization, including planning lifecycle, working sessions, offsites, all hands, internal and external events, etc.
* Create and manage on-going review cadence for key team metrics: budget vs forecast, business performance, and org health metrics. Develop review structure, scorecards, and tools as needed in partnership with team LT.
* In partnership with LT, determine headcount targets for leaders. Manage headcount accountability, PCN hygiene, recruiting health, and accurate tracking.
* Build, develop, and manage a team of Business Admins that provide operational support for multiple Group Engineering Managers and Program Managers.
* In collaboration with Business PM and Finance, oversee budget and procurement management and processes.
* Connect with community of business managers in broader org and collaborate on cross-org projects.
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field required
* Education or experience in finance and/or operations management
* Minimum of 4+ years' experience in fast paced results-driven culture
* Strong project management and organizational skills
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Familiarity and with Microsoft Tools (e.g. HeadTrax, MyOrder, MS Inquire) and rhythm of business processes (e.g. Forecast, LRP, Targets, Budget)
* Ability to effectively collaborate, influence, and utilize outside resources to deliver impactful results
* A growth mindset and a passion to constantly learn and improve
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
