Job Description

The Core Platform teams mission is to increase the velocity of Etsys product engineers. We provide abstractions that help product engineers work with infrastructure-based services. Some examples of current work include:

* a real-time dataset service with Bigtable to power search ranking
* a change data capture pipeline utilizing Kafka
* collaborating with our Database Infrastructure team to implement Vitess

Were looking for people who are interested in getting involved in a wide array of technologies. We support multiple services and features - youll be working on projects that may include Golang, PHP, Scala, Kubernetes, Kafka, Bigtable, gRPC, Terraform and more!

About the Role:

Were looking for engineers with experience building scalable and resilient critical path platform services. You should be customer-focused, data-driven, and excited about collaborating with your teammates and peers. Your responsibilities include:

* Developing and maintaining critical path product services
* Building tools and libraries that make it easy to take advantage of Etsy infrastructure
* Identifying opportunities to improve our architecture, operability or capabilities
* Using data to validate your hypotheses and inform your decision making

Qualifications

* You have 4+ years building scalable solutions using technologies such as Scala, Golang, PHP, Bigtable, or their equivalents.
* Youve worked with large, distributed relational databases.
* You have production experience profiling, tracing, and optimizing using Linux tools like strace, perf, tcpdump, and so on.
* Youre customer-focused and always build with a user in mind
* You design for observability and dont consider it an afterthought
* Youre opinionated about what, and how, to build systems but empathetic to your colleagues
* Youve mentored engineers at a variety of levels throughout their career
