Boeing Space & Launch Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Associate Structural Analyst Engineer (Level 2) to perform detailed structural analysis, including stress, fracture and fatigue assessments for the Space Launch System (SLS) program in Huntsville, AL.
This position will work with product designers and verify structural integrity using analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance. The analyst will need knowledge of structural analysis and design support activities. Also may include the following: Develops test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Defines and documents certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied. Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements. Works with team members and technical leads to develop integrated analysis projects and other teams to provide efficient and robust solutions.

Position Responsibilities:
* Performs detailed structural analysis to determine structural integrity (margins of safety), using classical techniques and Boeing tools, to support drawing release, establishes maintenance/inspection programs and supports the Manufacturing Review Board process.
* Integrates component-level structural math models and performs integrated analysis, using finite element methods, to develop internal loads and stresses in order to verify structural integrity.
* Performs structural analysis and provides expertise to respond to customer inquiries, develops service bulletins, investigates failures and coordinate with regulatory agencies, to maintain continued airworthiness/mission capability.
* Documents structural analyses and data, required to show compliance with Boeing, customer and regulatory requirements, at a component level.
* Develops, deploys and supports in-house and commercial application software to enable efficient performance of engineering tasks to reduce cycle time and drive product improvements.
* Researches and prepares data to support definition of structural design requirements.
* Researches new technology applications, new product designs and structural life enhancement concepts, to improve products at the program level.
* Develops test plans, conducts pre-test analysis, monitors tests, analyzes and correlates test data, and documents results, to develop and certify structural concepts, investigates failures and develops material allowables.
* Supports Integration and Test by assessing out of spec conditions and providing recommendations in a timely manner.
Work Authorization:
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
* Bachelor of Science degree or greater in an engineering related field.
* Experience with structural analysis methods and repair principles (e.g., fatigue and corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, repair techniques, damage tolerance methods used in maintenance programs).
* Ability to travel 10% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
* Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Applied Mechanics, Structural, and Civil are preferred.
* Experience using NASTRAN/PATRAN or similar FEM software to perform structural analysis on aircraft or space structures.
* Experience with Space Launch systems.
* Experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams.
* Experience leading structural and mechanical tests of vehicles and/or subsystems.
Typical Education and Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
