The role of the Internal Insurance Strategist (IS) is to discuss needs with and sell life insurance to the clients of BB&T in partnership with their local BB&T Advisor. This includes fact finding, identifying needs, and providing insurance related solutions and objective financial analysis. Responsibilities include completing applications for life insurance and taking responsibility for following cases thorough the underwriting process once the sale is made. The IS is also responsible for learning to manage their daily activities and responsibilities in an efficient, productive, professional manner, within the scope of the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Be available to accept incoming calls directly from referral sources, and to be available for pre-set calls with clients and their Advisors.
2. Possess a clear understanding and knowledge of our the channels of the bank, their requirements, and ones role within their systems.
3. Be able to question a client regarding personal or business needs and goals, current financial status, be able to articulate identified gaps or opportunities, and describe solutions including life insurance.
4. Understand and be able to explain to any client or advisor how life insurance products work, the differences between product types, and the advantages of owning life insurance.
5. Be able to move the client to take action on the proposed plan.
6. Be able to explain the basics of estate planning, business planning, asset leveraging, insurance planning (including how to handle 1035 loans, explanation of insurance forms, and how to determine the need and amount of coverage).
7. Be able to communicate in writing or over the phone in a professional and effective manner.
8. Have a complete understanding of the underwriting process and the IS role within it.
9. Be able to work independently, managing daily work load efficiently and effectively.
10. Have good task management and time management skills.
11. Exhibit a clear understanding of the Internal Specialist role and how to drive the bus to achieve consistent and repetitive success.
12. Knowledge, Skill and Experience:
13. Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required: High School Diploma (required) and 2-4 years of college level or equivalent classes preferred, not required.
14. Applicant must be licensed to sell Life & Health insurance (license must be active).
15. Securities licensing (Series 6 & 63) are mandatory.

Required Skills and Competencies:

1. Minimum of 2 years direct life insurance selling experience in the field directly with clients and/or 3+ years handling inside sales helping agents sell life insurance through a General Agency or insurance carrier platform.
2. Be skilled in use of a PC, Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Access)
3. Possess good typing skills
4. Possess very strong customer service skills
5. proficient in use of most standard business office equipment (i.e. fax, email, copier, etc)
6. Possess good writing, grammar, speaking, and listening skills
7. Have a very clear grasp and understanding of all the features and functions of most term, whole life, universal life, and variable universal life products.
