At Amazon Web Services (AWS), Security is our highest priority. The AWS Security team is responsible for the security of services offered by AWS. The Secure all the Things (SAT2) team is responsible for driving innovative enhancements that raise the bar for how AWS employees interact with resources, systems, and data. At AWS' scale, we must invent new security tools to enable system administrators and developers to build rapidly, while maintaining least privileged access.

The successful candidate is one who loves working with engineering and business teams across an entire organization to understand their needs, and work with data professionals to design and build solutions that enable our teams to more quickly and effectively access our data. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, lead data engineering initiatives and build end-to-end analytical solutions that are highly available, scalable, stable, secure, and cost-effective. You strive for simplicity, demonstrate creativity and sound judgement. You deliver data solutions that are customer focused, easy to consume and create business impact. You should have extensive experience in the design, creation, management, and business use of extremely large datasets. You have a strategic and long term view on architecting advanced data eco systems. You are experienced in building efficient and scalable data services and have the ability to integrate data systems with AWS tools and services to support a variety of customer use cases/applications.

In this role, you have the opportunity to:
Gather business and functional requirements and translate these requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions with a flexible and adaptable data architecture.
Contribute to the architecture and implementation of next generation data and BI solutions from the ground up
Manage AWS resources including Redshift, S3, EC2, Athena, Glue, etc.
Optimize automated processes for performance and fault tolerance
Optimize support for ad-hoc analysis across various data sources
Collaborate with BI Engineers, Software Engineers, and cross-functionally to deliver high quality data architecture and pipelines.
Make large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable and usable by applications and teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors Degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics
5+ years of experience with demonstrated strength in ETL/ELT, data modeling, data warehouse technical architecture, infrastructure components and reporting/analytic tools.
5+ years of hands-on experience in writing complex, highly-optimized SQL queries across large data sets.
3+ years of experience in scripting languages like Python etc.
3+ years of experience using AWS data technologies (Redshift, Athena, Glue, S3, etc.)
3+ years of experience with data management fundamentals and data storage principles

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or other quantitative field
Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources
Experience in working and delivering end-to-end projects independently.
Experience communicating with senior management as well as with colleagues from engineering, analytics, and business backgrounds.
Query performance tuning skills using Unix profiling tools and SQL
Experience providing technical leadership and mentor other engineers for the best practices on the data engineering space
Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
Passion for building great notification experiences which directly impacts our customers
Experience with Big Data Technologies (EMR , Hadoop, Hive, Hbase, Pig, Spark, etc.)
