Amazon Elasticsearch Service makes it easy to deploy, operate, and scale Elasticsearch for log analytics, application monitoring, full-text search, and more. Our team architects, develops and operates software that allows customers to index, search and analyze documents at scale in a secure, responsive, and reliable environment. As an Engineering Manager, you will:
Lead a software development team responsible for rethinking traditional log analytics and data processing architectures in the cloud.
Conceive innovative new solutions for our customers, at the intersection of multiple fields: Search, Log Analytics, Serverless infrastructure, JVM performance optimization, data storage, query optimization and machine learning.
Contribute to the vision, goals, and technical strategy in alignment with customer needs and market opportunities.
Mentor engineers, provide leadership on complex technical issues, design trade-offs, and feature and schedule prioritization.
Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an agile environment.
Grow the site by hiring and developing a team of best-in-class engineers.
Responsible for both development and operations of our product(s).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field.
10+ years of software development experience along with 5+ years of people management experience (or equivalent technical leadership experience).
A leadership position in a team delivering database kernel, virtualized storage, distributed systems, search engines or operating systems.
Experience with more than one of Java, C/C++, C or other object oriented programming languages
Understanding of distributed computing, network programming, network-oriented design patterns, and their best practices
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to think both strategically and tactically and to drive execution. Should be equally comfortable with long term planning and day to day progress tracking and execution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering.
Experience delivering and operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems.
Experience working with an open source database.
Deep expertise with database internals such as data storage, query optimization, and query execution.
Superior analytical and problem solving skills.
10+ years of progressive management leadership experience directing high visibility initiatives in geo-distributed team environments.
