Job Description
The Maintenance Manager at Cleveland-Cliffs Columbus is responsible for all maintenance and maintenance related projects, repairs, and planning on a plant wide level including but not limited to regular maintenance, preventative maintenance, outages, building, grounds and infrastructure repairs, project and process improvements related to plant equipment installation or modification. The overall objective within this role is to decrease maintenance delays, improve equipment uptime within an approved budget, develop maintenance team to become involved with plant improvement and engagement efforts, amend maintenance duties, Excellent communication within various levels of the organization will be critical. Support and lead efforts towards engagement and participative management practices. This position will work at the direction of the Plant Manager to manage the daily maintenance activities identified in support of the plant.
Responsibilities
* Lead the plant maintenance manufacturing team which includes the full-time maintenance technicians to develop solutions for increased line productivity, engage in work teams to develop improvements, and determine areas of continuous improvement.
* Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace. This includes compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations through developing and/or enforcing safety rules and procedures, as well as company required standards. Support safety initiatives related to improvement on safety and ergonomic impact throughout plant.
* Communicate daily with Plant, Operation, and Technology Managers to coordinate maintenance and repair work throughout the facility.
* Provide technical support to Production Manager and Shift Managers regarding the quality and/or performance of machinery & equipment, tooling, fixtures, gauges, etc. at any given time.
* Serve as a resource to Operation and Technology groups to optimize the performance of the line daily, including general maintenance tasks by providing solutions to problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
* Manage breakdown repairs on all operating crews to minimize delays.
* Review daily turn reports and manage personnel to investigate and repair equipment issues and provide short term and long-term solutions to maintenance related repairs.
* Manage staff to prepare and carry out work orders and execute the monthly pot change outages.
* Oversee and monitor the use of inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering. Will directly manage spares department.
* Leads preparation, planning, and scheduling of breakdown work orders by assigning to appropriate maintenance staff.
* Work with the Reliability group to modify reliability routes to be performed more effectively and align with Operations and Technology groups for trial completions.
* Manage personnel to write Root Cause Failure Analysis for line stops and communicate corrective actions.
* Identify equipment that is nearing end of service life or risk analysis and possible replacement.
* Responsible for all building, grounds, and infrastructure repairs in addition to repairs on the main mill.
* Manage outage start up maintenance support by ensuring all contractors have been completed safety training compliance with maintenance/engineer coordinator work. Will collect and maintain records for Division Manager.
* Lead and identify task-specific training of technicians within plant designed training programs (eq. P and P) and safety/environmental.
* Enforces department to support and attend all required training efforts within plant as directed.
* Identify and provide needed training within department to ensure team remains current on technical knowledge.
* Achieves assigned business plan goals.
* Report to Management on solutions to resolve day-to-day maintenance issues and the progress of projects as assigned.
* Provides technical knowledge to Operations and Technology Managers.
* All other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
* B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline
* 3 to 5 year of experience at Flat Rolled Finishing/Coating operations
* Ability to work in an industrialized environment, including multi-level and varying temperature extremes.
* Proficient in MS Office products.
* Ability to work self-directed, prioritize work and handle multiple projects.
* Possess excellent written and verbal skills.
Preferred Requirements
* B.S./M.S. in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
* 5+ years experience, with emphasis on Continuous Improvement and Galvanize/Galvanneal Flat Rolled Coating Operations.
* Experience with Process Improvement Activities, incorporating both equipment and practice components.
* Additional experience with other parts of the Flat Rolled rolling process a plus.
* Solid working knowledge of fully integrated steel mill operations.
