Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will be part of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program (Minuteman III ICBM replacement) development contract. Learn more about the GBSD program here.

Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force rsquo;s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure. Aerospace Vehicle Equipment (AVE) Structural Engineer is a member of the Structural and Thermal Analysis team under the AVE Modeling Simulation and Analysis (AVE MS amp;A) team.

What you 39;ll get to do:

* Analyzes, researches, and develops structural environments (loads, shock, and vibration) for the entire life cycle of the missile: flight, storage, transportation and handling, and maintenance.
* Assesses missile structures (metallic, non-metallic, and composite) for stress, stability, fatigue, and material thermal response.
* Performs analysis utilizing hand calculations and or finite element software packages such as Nastran and Abaqus.
* When finite element models (FEMs) are appropriate, critical thinking skills will be required to develop a FEM to capture appropriate behavior of complex structures.
* Due to the complex nature of the systems analyzed, the position requires working closely with multiple engineering disciplines including but not limited to Computational Fluid Mechanics, System Engineering, and Mechanical Design to achieve program objectives in a timely manner
* Additional work responsibilities may include task planning, conducting technical peer reviews, and mentoring junior engineers

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Qualification

You rsquo;ll bring these qualifications:

* Bachelor rsquo;s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or Software discipline from an accredited university with a minimum 5 years of related Mechanical, Structural, Stress, or Structural Dynamics Engineering experience; 3 years 39; experience with a related Master 39;s degree; or 0 years 39; with a PhD
* Experience developing missile or launch vehicle structural loads and environments
* Minimum 3 years of experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in any of the following solvers: Nastran, Abaqus, ANSYS or similar
* Experience with vibroacoustic prediction software such as wave6 or VA One
* Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher

These qualifications would be nice to have:

* Active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
* Experience developing missile or launch vehicle structural loads and environments
* Implicit or explicit dynamic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience analyzing dynamic environments: random vibration, sinusoidal vibration, and shock.
* Excellent technical writing skills
* Excellent communication and organizational skills; strong interpersonal and analytic skills
* Works well in a team environment
