Our Associate Global Economist is a member of the Global Insights team which is responsible for economic, market strategy, and asset allocation viewpoints to support Principalu2019s investment strategy, outlook, and brand presence.

Be part of the development, analysis and communication of global economic insights and research. Partner closely with members of Principalu2019s Insights program to develop and execute the ongoing program of economic analysis in programmatic content and research. Support a diverse stakeholder group, by providing timely, in- depth economic research, forecasting tools, and macroeconomic analysis with a global investment perspective. While the primary role would be to cover the US economy, an understanding and knowledge of global economies is also required.n
How you'll spend your time:n
n
* Source, research, analyze, and evaluate global economic data, conditions and financial markets to extract intelligent insights, project economic trends, and design, develop and evaluate economic models and forecasting tools.n
* Perform advanced statistical and econometric analyses of data including working with complex data sets and managing the treatment of gaps and other challenges.n
* Translate and communicate macroeconomic views through the development of clear data visualizations, charts, written analyses, and presentations for use by members of the Insights team.n
* Identify and drive intellectual thought leadership through delivery of forward-looking economic trends with a view for enhancing strategic and tactical asset allocation investment performance.n
* Collaborate with the broader Insights team to produce regular reports for management that distill complex data into a clear/consumable format to be used for investment decisions.n
* Maintain a strong knowledge of financial market developments.nn

Qualificationsnn
* Master's degree in economics with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.n
* Excellent analytical and modeling skills. Should be proficient in the use of market data software (Bloomberg, FactSet, EViews, etc.), programming languages (R, Python, etc.) and other applications (Microsoft Office, etc.) as well as data sets used to develop global macroeconomic models and analytics.n
* Must be skilled working in global team environments.n
* A thorough understanding and knowledge of global economies in addition to the US economy is preferred.n
* Proven ability to articulate thought process and findings.n
* Proven writing and data visualization skills.n
* Record of delivering high impact in a fast-paced business environmentn
* Business judgment and relentlessly high standardsn
* Willing to travel within USA for presentations and client engagement.nn
We are looking for a self-motivated economist who has the ability or experience in working with alternative data sources. Strong knowledge of quantitative analysis and statistical modeling techniques, and a robust understanding of how investment markets and economies function is required.n
