What you'll be doing

The Workbook Services team is creating the next generation of services to support persisting and modifying users Analytics workbooks that contain the rich visualizations and dashboards that users create with Tableau. You will work directly with other service-owning teams to ensure application layer services can persist workbook information quickly and reliably, allowing user sessions to be moved seamlessly between nodes and ensuring users never lose their work. Your work will directly improve the customer experience and the value of Tableaus brand for our growing cloud-based Analytics community in Tableau Online and Public, as well as for our larger Enterprise customers.

Some of the things you'll do include

* Design and implement services to support persistence of users updates to their Analytics workbooks.

* Understand the performance and scaling characteristics of technically challenging Java and C++ code within VizQL Server, the service at the core of Tableaus Analytics functionality, ensuring the workbook services provide the right functionality and right APIs for our core Analytics scenarios and other scenarios requiring workbook access.

* Work cross-team to ensure clear domain boundaries and clean APIs between the Content Management System, workbook-related services our team is developing, and other services accessing content contained in Analytics workbooks.

* Lead other team members and collaborate across teams to ensure engineering and operational excellence for the new services we are building.

* Play a key role in evolving our codebase into smaller, independent services, influencing API standards, system design, service integration testing and operational best practices.

Who you are

* Educated. You have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field.

* Experienced. You are skilled with Java and bring excellent API design, system design and data modeling skills. C++ experience is a strong plus, as is experience with both Linux and Windows.

* Technical. You know what it takes to develop high-scale, highly-available services in cloud-hosted environments. You are well-versed in techniques for building performant, fault-tolerant distributed systems as well as supporting services using a DevOps approach.

* Strong Communicator. You distill complex technical information down to the key elements and communicate your design ideas or technical details clearly and effectively.

* Relentlessly High Standards. You are not satisfied by the status quo and motivate those around you to improve the quality of our systems, code and engineering practices. You work toward pragmatic solutions that regularly deliver customer-delighting functionality while steadily improving system quality over time.

* A Team Player. You enjoy collaborating, learning from and teaching others so we can all become better engineers. You assume good intent in others and actively do your part to make a positive work environment.

* You are a Recruiter! Tableau hires company builders and, in this role, you will be asked to be on the lookout for the best talent to bring onboard to help us continue to build one of the best companies in the world!
