Job Brief

As a key member of the leadership team, the Chief Accounting Officer will act as a strategic partner to the CFO to support business decisions and have primary day-to-day responsibility for ensuring financial controls are designed and operating effectively and that financial accounting and reporting is both timely and accurate.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Reports directly to CFO and interfaces directly with senior management, team members, board of directors and advisors
* Manages/Leads Accounting department staff in the completion of duties and responsibilities
* Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Company procedures
* Issues timely and complete financial statements under US GAAP
* Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
* Ensures compliance with federal, state, local and corporate policies, regulations and laws
* Researches, analyzes and proposes conclusions on technical accounting matters
* Evaluates current accounting practices and policies and drives continuous improvement
* Manages preparation and reviews work papers and supporting schedules to support financial statement assertions
* Prepares financial statements and other reports to accurately portray financial condition. Ensures integrity of all financial information.
* Manages monthly/quarterly closing process
* Works with both internal and external auditors
* Develops, implements and upgrades processes, systems and related controls
* Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, evaluating and enforcing company-wide policies and procedures
* Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
* Provides leadership and guidance to the managers of the Accounting department and acts as their proxy, where warranted, in taking issues/recommendations to senior management
* Maintains Accounting team results by coaching, counseling and developing employees; plans, monitors and appraises performance
* Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation. Anticipates future legislation, enforces adherence to requirements, files financial reports and advises management on needed actions
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops; reviews professional publications, and establishes professional networks
* Contributes to team effort by participating in various special project teams
* Complies with financial information requests of lenders, vendors and other third parties by providing copies of financial statements, credit references, financial status updates, etc.

Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA required with a Masters degree preferred.
* 10+years of public accounting experience in Accounting/Financial Reporting/SEC regulations with a minimum of 5 years managerial experience required
* Big 4 public accounting firm experience preferred
* Strong analytical and budgeting/forecasting skills required
* Proven ability to manage financial staff and general knowledge of legal process a must
