Job Description

Job Summary: This is a driver position responsible for the transport and delivery of freight on time in a professional manner by driving diesel-powered tractor trailer combinations short and long distances, while complying with Department of Transportation rules and regulations, maintaining a safe work environment, and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.

Tasks: This driver position is responsible for dispatching trucks on a regular basis according to a prescheduled plan. This position is also responsible for the proper documentation and preparation of load sheets, answering the phone calls from managers and growers, and documenting information accurately for recordkeeping. This position is also responsible for keeping office area clean, assisting with required checks at the plant, and assisting other Team Members in Live Haul when needed. This driver position is also responsible for full-time driver duties which include hauling chickens from the farm to the processing plant in a safe and efficient manner. This position is also responsible for carrying trailers to the farms when needed, binding and unbinding trailers, conducting pre and post trip inspections of equipment on a daily basis and any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Monday Friday; some Saturday and holiday work required.

Must be willing to work flexible hours and weekends when needed. Will be required to work day and night shifts as needed. Must have good communication and personal relations skills. Must be able to sit or stand 8-10 hours in an office or in a truck. Must be able to reach, grasp, lift, push, pull, bend, and stoop. Must be able to properly document and prepare load sheets. Must be able to coordinate and communicate with Drivers regarding loads. Must be able to dispatch according to a prescheduled plan, but must be able to make decisions based on current situations and prioritization. Must be able to wash trailers with chemicals and assist Cage Repair Attendant with repairing cages, attaching/detaching panels to trailers. Must be able to use small hand tools and ability to stick weld would be a plus, but not required. Must be able to operate a small all-terrain forklift/Moffett and be certified for forklift license. Must keep office and work area clean. Must be willing to take temperature of DOAs and check wingtips of birds. Will also be responsible for running errands for parts/supplies. Must be able to work in a dusty environment. Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures.

Must possess a valid Alabama Class A CDL. Must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for this position. Must have a DOT certification on the date of posting. Must have (9) nine months out of the last (12) twelve months or (1) one year of verifiable experience in type vehicle that will be operated (top heavy load experience preferred). Must be able to obtain a medical card as required by DOT. No DUI/DWI conviction in the past eight (8) years in a personal vehicle. No DUI/DWI conviction in Commercial Motor Vehicle ever. No DOT Drug or Alcohol Violation with the past (3) three years, including Roadside inspection violations as identified on locations PSP report. Must be able to read and write in order to follow delivery schedule and follow simple maps and directions to farms. Must pass a driving test. Must pass a mandatory drug test for Tyson Drivers each time a DOT physical or random is given. Must meet the Tyson Driver Evaluations System requirements that involve but not limited to: Points, DUI/DWI Rules and Drug and Alcohol Testing.

Must not own, possess, or otherwise maintain any domestic, wild or exotic fowl to be considered. Approved Growers for the Alabama Complex may be considered.

Must have (6) six months of continuous work history with (1) one employer within the last (24) twenty-four months.
