Join the UHS Southern CA Regional Office team!
The UHS Southern CA Region consists of five acute care facilities located in the Southern CA area;
* Temecula Valley Hosptial in Temecula, CA
* Southwest Healthcare System: Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, CA and Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta, CA
* Corona Regional Medical Center in Corona, CA
* Palmdale Regional Medical Center in Palmdale, CA
The System Medical Staff/Credentialing Coordinator is responsible for processing credentialing and re-credentialing applications for health care providers. Mails, reviews, and verifies credentialing applications. Sets up and maintains provider information in an online credentialing database system. Tracks license and certification expirations for all providers to ensure timely renewals.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Leads, coordinates, and monitors the review and analysis of practitioner applications and accompanying documents, ensuring applicant eligibility.
* Able to independently work in the proprietary electronic system (MD Staff) to perform essential credentialing functions through the continuum of the credentialing process.
* Conducts thorough background investigation, research and primary source verification of all components of the application file, including, licensure, education, training, current competence, and qualifications to perform privileges requested.
* Actively reaches out to the applicant, references, and other hospitals to timely obtain data needed to complete the credentialing process.
* Thorough understanding of the privileging process, and ability to match requested privileges to the requirements needed to obtain that privilege.
* Provide verification of credentialing and privileging status of a member of one of our Medical Staffs to other hospitals, pharmacies, and health plans (as permitted by policy).
* Support the hospital's medical staff office with requests for information regarding the progress of the credentialing proves.
* Ability to prioritize tasks and meet expected timeframes for processing of an application.
* Identifies issues that require additional investigation and evaluation, validates discrepancies and ensures appropriate follow up.
* Ability to identify concerns in an applicant's file that require the input of the Manager or the Chief Medical Officer.
* Monitoring and advance notice of expirables, including all licenses, TB clearance, certificates, insurance certificates, etc., ensure all documents are received and entered to database.
* Ensure application fee (for each applicable hospital) is paid.
* Process Medical Student applications, provide orientation package, coordinate completion of all paperwork between school, physician, student and hospital and ensure all screenings, immunizations, etc., are documented.
* Prepares and mails Governing Board approval letters for credentialing related issues.
* Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all medical staff and allied health applicants and members, medical staff leadership, providing consultative expertise, administrative and other delegated support at a regional level as necessary for them to fulfill their obligations.
* Provides meaningful input in the building of regional CVO policies and procedures to maximize quality and efficiency.
* Ability to apply regional standards and policies to applicants and work independently to ensure compliance with these policies
* Ability to view the credentialing process as a systems process that crosses hospitals lines, and ability to independently complete files from any of the region's hospitals.
* Participates in required and voluntary continuing education to achieve professional growth and maintain knowledge base in area of responsibility, and to maintain required certification.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:
* High School Graduate or equivilent required.
* Associate's degree from an accredited College or University in related field preferred.
* Two (2) to Three (3 years of experience in credentialing required, acute care experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
* Certification through NAMSS (National Association of Medical Staff Services) as Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Medical Staff Coordinator (CMSC) required within three (3) years of hire date.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, regulatory or accreditation requirements Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic to Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY: Intermediate to High Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Demonstrates knowledge and ensures compliance with The Joint Commission and Title 22 standards and guidelines.
* Demonstrates compliance with hospital policies and procedures at all times.
* Ability to set priorities and appropriately organize workload and complete assignments in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates ability to relate to clinical personnel and medical staff, as well as ability to interact well with the public.
* Must have knowledge of PC and applications.
* Secretarial skills, including excellent written, oral, listening, and typing skills.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
* Knowledge of computer operations/usage (data entry and word processing).
* Knowledge of use of fax machine, digital camera, copier, calculator, telephone.
* Maintains emotional stability and calm, positive disposition.
* Possesses intelligence and willingness to improve.
* Maintains confidentiality of information.
* Has ability to prioritize and re-prioritize constantly.
* Is loyal, reliable, tactful, honest, and discreet.
