Position Summary


The user experience (UX) researcher collaborates with product designers, business leaders, product owners and developers across PPL in the support of customer and enterprise employee products and work tools. The UX researcher will support an agile human-centered design approach to deliver exceptional experiences to customers and employees.

The ideal candidate is experienced with a variety of UX research methods and human-centered design practices. They also have experience working within product teams in a matrixed organization and understands what it means to be agile. The UX researcher helps us continue to build out our growing research chapter and develop lean research practices to accomplish a variety of product goals.
Primary Responsibilities

The Intermediate Researcher level performs a variety of research methods, analyzes results and helps define solutions to problems under guidance of their senior or team lead. The intermediate researcher level is expected to have knowledge and experience in some of the methods and practices described below.

The Senior Researcher level helps shape and design various research studies, performs a variety of more complex research methods, analyzes results and drives solutions to complex problems under minimal guidance of their team lead. The senior researcher level is expected have knowledge, experience and expertise in most of the methods and practices described below.

User Experience Research:
Create research plans to identify the business problem, research objectives, methods, participants, stakeholders, and schedule.
Create interviews, discussion guides and other data collection instruments
Conduct discovery research such as user interviews, contextual inquiries, diary studies, focus groups
Conduct testing and evaluation research such as usability tests and cognitive walkthroughs to assess usability of wireframes, prototypes, websites and apps.
Conduct information architecture research such as card sorts, tree tests and first-click tests
Conduct secondary research such as reviewing design analogs and industry best practices
Collect, analyze and code user data and synthesize findings
Present and communicate research findings to product team members and stakeholders
Design research artifacts such as user personas, archetypes and journey maps based on research findings
Design participant recruitment screeners and brief surveys
Advocate on behalf of customers and employees through design thinking and research
Evangelize user research to stakeholders
Field difficult questions from stakeholders and partners around methods and process
Train others in research methods and best practices
Work with our customer and employee panels to arrange interviews and organize research logistics
Collaborate with Product to identify and track key UX metrics such as system usability scale, analytics and customer satisfaction
Contribute to the teams research repository to allow others across the company to access actionable findings
Attend conferences to stay current on the latest research methods

Other:
May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

Basic Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related work experience or 6 years of related work experience (Intermediate Researcher Level)
2. Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related work experience or 8 years of related work experience (Senior Researcher Level)
3. Experience with industry-standard UX research tools (e.g., UserTesting, Optimal Workshop, Loop11, Miro, Qualtrics, Google Analytics) (Intermediate Researcher Level)
4. Mastery of industry-standard UX research tools (e.g., UserTesting, Optimal Workshop, Loop11, Miro, Qualtrics, Google Analytics) (Senior Researcher Level)
5. Strong relationship management skills, with ability to work on Agile, cross-functional teams
6. Experience working in a solution delivery environment and on enterprise platforms

Additional Requirements

The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
