Applied Technology Services (ATS) has been providing technology-based, innovative, high-value services to the Company for over 40 years. ATS is a multidisciplinary team of over 120 engineers, scientists, and technicians. The ATS vision is to be a forward-thinking, technological leader providing high-value solutions and services needed across the Company. ATS high-value services also help proactively avoid future problems through solutions and methods that are best practices in the industry.
Position Summary
The Applied Technology Services (ATS) Engineering staff provides engineering, testing and analysis services, and expertise across multiple disciplines to various company organizations to identify, diagnose, and solve technical problems. The team provides consultation and advice to clients to proactively avoid future problems by specifying equipment, materials, and methods that are best practices in the industry. Services include inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on a wide variety of systems and components ranging from in-service concrete to hydroelectric turbine blades to distributed generation and power system devices and components. The engineering staff partners with management in the creation of bid proposals for requested client work. The incumbents maintain knowledge of and adhere to all Company and regulatory safety and quality processes and procedures.
The ATS Electrical Engineering staff provides:
* Electrical Engineering Testing, Analysis, and Consulting Services
* High Voltage (up to 720,000 Volts) and High Current (up to 90,000 Amps) Testing
* New Equipment Validation Testing and Acceptance
* Equipment Post Failure Inspection and Failure Analysis
* Incident Recreation
* Grounding Grid Measurements and Analysis
* Arc-Flash Studies
* Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Program Management
* Power Factor Testing
* Underground Cable Testing
* IR Infrared, SF6 Leak and UV Corona Field Inspections
* Vehicle Dielectric Testing (Insulated Bucket trucks and T-Line Barehand trucks)
Travel required; frequency depends on the assignment and is typically 10% - 25%.
Job Responsibilities
* Collaborates with peers to prepare technical reports and specifications and to identify, define, and solve problems
* Completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards requiring integration of information from a variety of sources
* Performs a lead role in determining scope, schedule, budget, and resources needed
* Establishes customer expectations and ensures project deliverables meet customer satisfaction objectives
* Develops test protocols, models, technologies and analyzes data
* Evaluates the performance of parts, assemblies or systems under simulated operating conditions, and records results
* Compiles project test results and prepares presentations, recommendations for client and Leadership
* Expands knowledge in other areas of specialty or discipline, developing breadth or further develops expertise and specialization in one area
* Identifies innovations and the cost-reduction potential of new and existing technologies
* May assist higher-level peers on the most complex and innovative tests
* Modifies electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.
* Continually identifies testing or process improvements
* Partners with senior peers and Leadership to prepare estimates for client bid proposals
* Provides some coaching and oversight to lower level peers
* Reviews test designs of lower-level peers to determine applicability, feasibility and if objectives of the project will be obtained
Qualifications
Minimum:
* Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience
* Job-related experience, five years or more
* Ability to work safely around high voltage test equipment, in substation and power plant environments.
Desired:
* Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Emphasis desired)
* Professional Engineer's License
* Broad understanding of engineering research and testing concepts, theories, practices, methods, techniques in the area of specialty, as well as a general knowledge of other engineering specialties
