The publicist oversees full PR campaigns for a selection of titles within the Nelson Books portfolio of book products. This team member will develop and execute PR and marketing initiatives for select new product launches and sales of existing products.Nelson Books prides itself on strong author relationships, award-winning content, and a collaborative team environment. Our successes include New York Times bestsellers Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis, Everybody, Always by Bob Goff, For the Love by Jen Hatmaker, Grateful American by Gary Sinise, and Its Not Supposed to Be This Way by Lysa TerKeurst.

The publicists job consists of but is not limited to:

* Managing PR campaigns for approximately 2-3 titles per month (including writing media kits, media outreach/pitching, and overseeing author media schedules under the guidance of the Director of Publicity).
* Sharing team administrative duties such as designing and creating presentations and informational decks, budget tracking, meeting coordination, and overseeing creation of advance copies and other mailings.

* Contributing to select marketing tasks like creation of marketing collateral (websites, digital graphics, etc.), overseeing Nelson Books newsletters and social media, and more.

Responsibilities

Public Relations:

* Plan and execute PR campaigns for select front list tiles including research, creating media lists, producing and coordinating advanced reader copy mailings, media outreach and follow-up, and scheduling and managing author itineraries.
* Professional communications with authors, agents, external agencies, and contractors.

* Write press kits and creative pitch letters, and other promotional materials relating to a books campaign.

* Develop and maintain media contacts on a national, regional, and local level. Populate, update, and maintain master contact database used for media outreach.

* Work closely with marketing, sales, online marketing, and editorial colleagues.

* Work closely with sales to communicate media opportunities, as well as collect input on media most advantageous to their accounts.

* Become a trusted resource for producers, editors, writers, and reporters, providing relevant information, sources, books, and authors.

* Track media activities and clippings and update sales force, authors, agents, and internal personnel weekly on hits and activities. Contribute to the development of a publicity return on investment (ROI) model with Publicity Director.

* Maintain strong relationships as part of author, agent, marketing, and publicity teams.

General Administration:

* Process, manage, and track invoices through internal cost systems. Monitor process, progress, and results. Maintain projection sheets for all active books/projects. Track commitments against budget, identifying opportunities and challenges for marketing team actions.
* Create marketing collateral and support tools, including website landing pages, advertisements, keyword metadata, email campaigns, social media memes and ads, etc.

* Develop, schedule, execute, and track marketing campaigns bridging traditional and digital formats and venues (social media, Amazon placement, events, media relations, email, advertising channels, etc.).

Qualifications

Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years prior work experience in Publicity, with an emphasis placed on booking top-line media in both traditional and digital outlets and author tours

Education: Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field.

Industry Knowledge: Keen understanding of publicity and its function is required. Established media contacts in Christian and general market media arenas preferred. Christian book publishing experience preferred.

Skills:

* Working knowledge of crafting and delivering professional pitches and news releases to media outlets. Experience pitching to national media, a plus.
* Knowledge of media contact and engagement platforms such as MuckRack and Cision preferred.

* Proven success with digital PR outlets, including bloggers and social media required.

* Experience in publishing/entertainment publicity preferred.

* Familiarity with digital marketing practices, metadata application, website marketing, and graphic design preferred.

* Knowledge of Christian authors/personalities is a plus.

* An ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines.

* Extensive knowledge of the media and a familiarity with book reviewers, magazine editors, and bloggers.

* Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.

* Ability to think creatively and strategically.

* Strong project management skills.

* Proficiency in making presentations to small and large groups.

* Ability to write strong/winning media pitches.

* Basic budget skills.

* Willing to travel.
