Liberty Mutual Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Privacy Consultant to join its growing global data privacy team supporting operations in over 20 countries. Reporting to the Director of Privacy Compliance, this fast-paced role requires excellent organization, attention to detail, relationship management, communication and the ability to influence with a strong understanding of privacy concepts and technology. As a part of the Global Privacy team this role will champion Privacy by Design (PbD) across the company and will be skilled at balancing the need to meet regulatory requirements while supporting business innovation and the compliant access to data.
The Associate Privacy Consultant will partner with technology and business teams to facilitate the completion of privacy impact assessments (PIAs). This includes engaging with legal counsel and other key stakeholders to identify privacy risks, provide mitigation recommendations, and develop and ensure completion of remediation plans. The Associate Privacy Consultant will help implement PbD principles into the business processes of the company. This role will also be responsible for conducting various privacy related training and helping to guide the development of agile user stories to further support alignment with our PbD principles. The Privacy Consultant will be an independent, logical, inquisitive and solution-oriented individual that can work under minimal direction and guidance from manager. Using clear communication skills and attention to detail, the Associate Privacy Consultant will provide regular project updates and diligently follow up with stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of PIAs and adherence to critical compliance deadlines.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in effectively working across various functional teams both global and domestic in identifying, implementing, and documenting impact of best practices. The Associate Privacy Consultant role requires a collaborative and inquisitive approach to probe technology and business partners both to understand the data lifecycle and the business purpose for the data. This challenging position provides frequent opportunity to interface with Liberty employees and managers at various levels in various countries across the Liberty organization. The successful candidate must possess high standards of legal and business ethics.
The Associate Privacy Consultant will:
* Lead the review of moderate to complex PIAs for accuracy and completeness. Follows up with the business and technology teams regarding questions, edits, and omissions. Schedules and facilitates the review with legal counsel and other key stakeholders to identify personal data risks and recommend ways to mitigate risks. Works with the business on remediation plans. Identifies, escalates, and follows up on data protection issues that require investigation, resolution, and/or legal or other action.
* Conducts PbD training and embeds PbD principles into business processes and software products.
* Provides support for Data Map Survey reviews (e.g., categories and flow of data). Creates and helps maintain data inventories and the business process registry.
* Build/maintain strong relationships with global partners for ongoing dialogue to ensure all parties are informed of process changes that may impact data and record practices. Be collaborative and flexible while developing solutions that meet privacy/records requirements while supporting business function needs.
* Takes a proactive role in identifying process deficiencies within the organization and works with manager, co-workers and customers to execute process improvement initiatives.
* Provide support for other privacy and records projects as needed
Qualifications:
* Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in areas such as technology, compliance, or business analysis, with at least 3 years of relevant privacy experience with an understanding of PbD and/or exposure to other related regulatory compliance activities.
* Competencies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s degree or equivalent experience. CIPP/US, CIPP/EU, CIPT preferred.
* Strong critical thinking, problem solving, negotiation and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
* Excellent written, oral and presentation skills focused on influencing and guiding remediation activities. Must be able to successfully balance the need to meet organizational and regulatory requirements while supporting business innovation.
* Strong knowledge of data governance, privacy control frameworks and the ability to design and evaluate the effectiveness of controls.
* Ability to analyze complex environments, collaborate to identify privacy risks, influence management and key stakeholders related to remediation activities.
* Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
