Scope of Position:
In this laboratory manager role, we look for you to oversee the daily operations of Cornings Applications Laboratory and personnel located in Kennebunk Maine. You will lead a team of scientists conducting cell-based and biochemical experiments to help support marketing and commercial initiatives. The Applications Laboratory is dedicated primarily at designing and executing application driven projects to support commercial products and customer specific applications, especially in the areas of Bioprocess, 3D Cell Culture and Cell & Gene Therapy. The laboratory manager will also be responsible for presenting project updates, forecast, and manage expense budgets. The ideal candidate will have a talent for thinking outside of the box, design experiments thoroughly, mentor other laboratory personnel, and help generate application notes and protocols to help customers adopt Corning products. We are looking for an experienced manager to join out growing technical team at Corning Life Sciences.
Day to Day Responsibilities
* Ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory requirements for a BSL-2 laboratory
* Understand and familiarization with all projects occurring within the laboratory
* Manage staff members by providing best practices and research techniques
* Act as liaison between laboratory personnel and cross-functional stake holders
* Design and perform experiments to address hypothesis in question relevant to assigned projects
* Actively review primary and peer-reviewed publications relevant to laboratory interests
* Periodically check-in with laboratory personnel experimental protocols and project progress
* Report out laboratory monthly performance and project status
* Review technical collateral materials generated by team members and/or marketing groups
* Serve as technical consultant to projects both internally and externally
* Perform mammalian cell culture as determined by assigned projects and deliverables
* Contribute to development of applications knowledge, experimental designs, and technical documents.
* Monitoring inventory and ordering of supplies as necessary.
Travel Requirements:
* Up to 5% domestically.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
* Standard business hours; Monday Friday.
Required Education:
* M.S. in a science discipline required.
* Ph.D. highly preferred.
Required Years and Area of Experience:
* Minimum 10+ years of cell culture experience, preferably with bioproduction cell lines
* Minimum 2+ years of managing laboratory personnel.
Required Skills:
* Proven track record of developing and executing bioprocess development protocols.
* Ability to perform DOE under minimal supervision.
* Basic understanding of operating in a cGMP environment.
* Detailed data keeping and recording.
Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
* Bioprocess R&D and production experience.
* Experience with closed systems cell culture.
* Good knowledge of 3D and advanced cell culture.
* Experience with vaccine or viral vector production.
* Familiarity with SUT and/or bioreactors.
* Familiarity with stem cell and/or immunotherapy workflows.
* Familiarity with Corning products.
Soft Skills:
* Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively.
* Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to meet deadlines independently with minimal direction.
* Ability to work in high pressure situations
* Flexibility in schedule to meet deadlines
