You Will Be Responsible For:
* Assist Pharmacists with computer order entry, medication filling and distribution of completed orders to inpatients and soon to be discharged patients.
* Answer and screen phone calls for the Pharmacists
* Help in the training and orientation of other interns and students who will rotate through the department.
* Interns will often be tasked to look for patient specific medications/IVs that were sent up by the pharmacy but are not currently able to be located by unit staff
* Compound or repackage medications for inpatient prescriptions, including topical ophthalmic, intrathecals, Pediatric oral and IV doses.
* Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern will prepare compounding sterile preparations, aseptically accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner
* Maintain compliance and familiarity with IV Room Policies and Procedures, all State and Federal Laws and USP and ASHP
* Maintain accurate records on products compounded and prepare appropriate labels.
* Accurately fill departmental requisitions, crash cart medication trays and borrow loan forms
* Rotate stock and check for expired medications
* Maintain monthly floor inspections as assigned
* Prioritize level of care based on critical needs.
* Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds and communicate follow-up with clinical team.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
* High School Diploma/GED
* Actively enrolled in a College of Pharmacy
* Licensed as a registered pharmacist intern in the state of Florida
Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Intern will assist pharmacists in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Perform accurate and timely distribution of medications which may include potentially critical, high expense medications, chemotherapy, investigational agents, controlled substances and potentially hazardous substances in a dosage form ready for administration. Utilize technical equipment such as automated drug dispensing technology, barcode software and automated packaging technology to provide accurate, safe products for patient administration. All products prepared for distribution receive a final check by a licensed pharmacist prior to dispensing. Performs multiple computer functions, facilitates accurate charging/crediting of medications via various computer applications. Require a variety of shifts that include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
