DESCRIPTION:

Strong communication, technical knowledge, and customer service skills are needed to perform work in the CBS News Archive. Archivists will deal with various CBS News Units Producers, Broadcast Associates and outside Sales clients. A strong skill set should include understanding of current events and history. Archivists are required to monitor and navigate the Avid Digital Asset Management System to fulfill client orders and assist in research. Tape and film orders are physically fulfilled and digitized on premise for use. Existing digital media is restored from the LTO/Cloud archive and sent via file delivery methods. Understanding of digital workflows is also highly recommended. Strong technical skills are needed to operate and navigate the Ingest Room with various tape formats being digitized. Knowledge of various film and tape formats is a plus. Archivists are also responsible for assisting users with location of reference library materials such as newspapers, microfilm, magazines, journals, and books, scanning material when necessary. Attention to detail is crucial as archivists must also catalogue metadata using specific terms and keywords for all CBS News footage housed in the CBS News Archives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience in either a tape archive or library cataloguing system
* Experience with Digital asset management systems a plus
* Experience with file ingest systems and media encoding a plus
* Experience with 16mm film preparation and processing a huge plus
* Ability to climb ladders to retrieve material when necessary
* College degree preferred, Library Science degree a huge plus
