The Business Intelligence Analyst is a mid-level position with responsibility for obtaining, developing and analyzing data, prove/disprove hypotheses, and develop insights. The individual in this role will be expected to consult with costumers to develop business requirements and provide possible solutions and approaches to their analytic needs. While expected to exhibit a significant amount of independence in interacting with business partners and in preparing analyses, the role works under the general direction of their leader and also trains, mentors, and provides work direction to associate analysts. Develops an understanding of Thrivents products, systems, and processes.

Job Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Collaborates with technical resources, business resources, and business owners to: 1) define specific hypothesis/questions to evaluate and analyze, or 2) gather, develop, validate and analyze data and data requirements in support of business operations.
* Conducts moderately complex SQL queries and works with other data extraction, reporting and analytic tools to validate and/or develop analysis and reporting to provide insight.
* Develops plans to evaluate hypothesis/questions and measure performance.
* Produce and maintain models and data using a variety of corporate software tools.
* Partners with business, IT and customers to ensure that the design, execution, presentation, and distribution of actionable insights or data streams can be readily implemented and meets management requirements.

Required Job Qualifications

* Minimum of a bachelors degree in economics, quantitative business analysis, applied mathematics, statistics, management information systems, actuarial science, or equivalent experience required.
* 3+ years of experience in financial services and/or research and analytics or 2+ years of experience in the actuarial field.
* Intermediate skill in using analytics tools (such as SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R, etc.) in a corporate environment.
* Intermediate skill in design and execution of complex statistical modeling and testing involving linear and non-linear regression techniques (e.g. CHAID, CART, ANOVA, MANOVA, LOGISTIC, TTEST etc.)
* Intermediate skill with relational databases, data warehousing, data mining and OLAP.
* Experience in experimental design and impact assessment.

Preferred Job Qualifications

* 2+ years of experience of visualization design, development, and delivery, including demonstrations, of dashboards using PowerBI (turn data into a visualization tool)
* 3+ years of experience with complex SQL (Query optimization and performance, Stored Procedures and Views)
* Effective written and verbal communication skills - Demonstrate range of methods to communicate with a variety of stakeholders and end users, from both a business and technical aspect
* Adaptability; self-starter; team player; focused; committed; work independently

* Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational, planning and problem solving skills
* Able to work with a sense of urgency on multiple projects at the same time
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, within a stated objective
* Ability to utilize technology to create reports and/or secure information necessary for decision making in a manner that is readily consumable by customers.
