UP Health System - Bell
Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.
Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
Performs all therapeutic and diagnostic modalities provided by the Department according to the established policies and procedures.
Performs patient assessment, evaluating the appropriateness of the therapy ordered and making suggestions as to how the patient might be best served.
Develops and implements plans of care for patients receiving respiratory therapy services and participates in patient care conferences regarding such plans of care with other health care providers.
Develops and implements patient education programs related to respiratory care and treatment of respiratory diseases and acts as a resource for other staff members with regard to performance of procedures within their realm of expertise.
Participates in departmental quality monitoring and improvement activities and assists other staff members to assure that quality patient care is provided.
Performs all procedures thoroughly and accurately.
Maintains work areas in a well-organized and neat manner.
Demonstrates awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for personal and professional growth.
Demonstrates self-directed learning, participates in continuing education by attendance at scheduled meetings and in-services, and completes all annual learning requirements.
Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA regulations.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Understands and adheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
The Registered Respiratory Therapist may, with additional training and certification:
Perform all diagnostic modalities offered in the pulmonary function lab and coordinate the specific functions of the Lab assisting with the development of written guidelines.
Assist the Department Supervisor in the development, implementation and operation of new programs involving cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing.
Participate in the pulmonary rehabilitation program.

Associates Degree in Respiratory Care
