The selected candidate will join a very successful team of 30 professionals who are dedicated to investing in renewable energy power projects. Since 2003 the Energy Investments team has invested in or raised from other institutional investors over $25 billion for US wind, solar and geothermal projects, making JPMorgan a leading player in the very active market for renewable energy tax equity. The team has formed strong relationships with most of the major domestic and international renewable energy companies and expects to remain a tax equity market leader based on continued federal government support via the tax code for the renewable energy industry as America seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and increase its energy independence. Such investments present an attractive risk/return proposition and are integral to JPMorgan Chase's environmental policy, underscoring the firm's growing commitment to sustainable energy.
As a critical member of the transaction team, the selected Candidate will be responsible for using Excel spreadsheets to perform the financial modeling required to structure and analyze energy investment opportunities. Each investment requires extensive analysis in terms of economic returns (before and after tax and from both the investors and the sponsors perspective), accounting and tax aspects as well as how such transaction structures perform under various downside operating scenarios. The selected candidate will also become versed in the terminology and concepts of the renewable energy industry. This role has historically been the basis for advancement to the transactor and team lead roles within the Energy Investments team.
The selected candidates principal responsibility will be financial modeling but will also expand into others areas needed to get a deal from the initial request for proposal phase to the commitment and funding of the investment. To that end, the successful candidate will have regular client contact and interactions with internal management, which requires strong communication skills in order to convey the results of analysis clearly and succinctly during investment committee meetings, in sponsor presentations and proposals and in messages to the deal team describing the results of the analysis. The selected candidate must be a strong team player, capable of juggling multiple assignments at one time and equipped with applicable skills and experience to make a significant contribution in a short period of time.
