Position Summary

An Assistant Brewer is responsible for supporting all aspects of the beer brewing process including raw materials handling, wort production, yeast management and CIP completion as well as monitoring fermentation and finishing of beer. This employee must be a hardworking, responsible, and self-motivated individual with a passion for the brewing process and a desire to continue learning and growing within the beer industry. Problem solving skills and attention to detail are also key attributes required of a brewer. They will communicate with management and other members of the Brewing and Filtration teams to keep operations organized, on time, and maintain a solid workflow. This individual will report to the Brewing Manager and will play a key role in driving the companys high-volume needs and quality expectations. Our facility operates with the need for agility, and flexibility with shifts is a must.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist with the operation of a 100 BBL brewhouse and the production of batches from start to finish

* CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation vessels, and other equipment

* Ability to follow and execute recipes

* Yeast handling and management

* Monitoring fermentation and finishing of beer in order to ensure tank availability to meet the production schedule

* Logging of all brewing related data points and notes from brew day through fermentation and finishing

* Following SOPs (standard operating procedures) in each phase of brewing and fermentation

* Maintaining clean brewing practices in the brewhouse and cellar

* Executing preventative maintenance on all brewhouse and cellar equipment

* Conduct inventory counts and log them

Minimum Qualifications

* Three years experience in a commercial production brewery or high-volume brewpub is required

* An understanding of all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitization

* Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail

* A strong passion for brewing and a desire to advance ones personal growth in the brewing industry

* Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills

* Flexibility in terms of hours and the ability to work any shift in a 24/7 production environment including weekends and holidays

* Punctual and reliable attendance

* Computer literate with an understanding of Microsoft Office/spreadsheet programs

* Ability to multi-task

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

* An understanding of quality assurance (QA) methods and techniques, laboratory operations, and basic knowledge of chemistry and biology

* Prior filtration, cellar, and/or packaging experience

* Mechanical experience and aptitude

* Forklift operation or certification

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

* Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl

* Heavy physical work including climbing stairs, climbing into tanks, pulling hoses, etc.

* Willing to work in wet, hot and cold conditions

* Willing to work in consistently loud environments

* Ability to work safely with potentially hazardous chemicals

* Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds with assistance

Our starting rate of pay for this position is $18.00/hour.
