Northrop Grumman Space Sector is searching for an experienced Director, Software Engineering 1 to lead the Software Engineering Team within Launch Vehicles business unit located in Chandler, AZ.

Provides leadership to functional teams in an engineering department and is responsible for the development of multiple product lines within a division. This role is accountable for the technical design excellence of Launch Vehicles products and the overhead costs of the department. Drives product development through efficient processes, domain technical expertise, timely decision making, personnel development, effective resource management and embracing a continuous improvement philosophy. Serve as a role model supporting the division 39;s mission and values.
Job Responsibilities
1. Provides guidance, direction, and performance feedback to managers, staff engineers, and directors on highly complex challenges resulting in critical impact to the business.
2. Ensure the department 39;s engineering leaders are educated on the importance of process excellence and applying continuous improvement methods. Lead by example in the use of strategy deployment, kaizen, problem solving, and lessons learned.
3. Coach, support, and motivate to ensure a high performing engineering team. Create and maintain development and succession plans for managers and staff engineers. Assign and approve recruiting efforts to maintain team capabilities.
4. Ensure hiring plans and staff development are aligned to overall capability and capacity strategy. Manage department budgets, schedules and resources to effectively meet business goals.
5. Support technology growth in innovation identification, roadmap development, and proposal preparation. Ensure alignment with other departments and division strategies related to technology development efforts.
6. Set and promote high standards for quality and safety. Maintains LVD rsquo;s engineering process and drives technical excellence by ensuring department output meets technical standards. Identifies and assigns improvements needed at the division level.
7. Maintains knowledge of engineering best practices and technology innovations by attending industry events and educational activities. Serves as an independent reviewer in select product development process or technology areas.
8. Represent and communicate Launch Vehicles technical capabilities and technologies to internal and external customers. Present deliverables at division leadership management reviews or technical committee meetings.
9. Lead performance and compensation management activities for a functional department at the division level.
10. Assign preparation, review, and approval of written technical proposals. Manage cost and schedule for independent research or process improvement projects assigned to your teams or departments. Participate in delegation for a functional department. Ensure alignment to division financial goals

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor rsquo;s Degree in Engineering is required; Master rsquo;s Degree preferred.
bull; Twelve years of experience in leading cross-functional project teams or engineering teams is required.

bull; U.S. Citizenship is required

bull; Active Secret Security Clearance is required
bull; Experience leading and developing staff, including performance and compensation management, proven mentoring and coaching skills, managing conflict and administering performance improvement plans is required.
bull; Supervision of more than 8 employees.
middot; Interacts with all levels of the organization and external representatives at a higher level.
middot; Five years of supervisory experience is required.
middot; Knowledge of Word, Excel and Windows required.
middot; Extensive experience as a responsible manager for a broad range of engineering activities is required.
