Job Description
The Director of Assortment Assessment is responsible for the development and communication of meaningful and actionable insights that inform strategic merchandising decisions to improve future performance. Having the right assortment hinges on several critical factors: relevance, breadth of selection, newness, price, and in-stock. The Director of Assortment Assessment will ensure we deliver a healthy assortment to our customers by managing these factors both individually and collectively. In order to do this, they will work within merchandising and cross functionally on ad hoc and planned projects, including both on near-term and long term analysis.
A day in the life
* Provide strategic insights and leadership to foster innovative and evolved business practices
* Proactively identify the need for assortment assessment initiatives and implement appropriate plans
* Creating Assortment Health playbooks for different product categories and helping Buying teams bring them to life
* Act as a change leader to support company initiatives and ensure adoption by merchandising team
* Stay current on industry practices and issues, assessing and communicating their potential impact on the business
* Ensure alignment on priorities and direction by partnering with appropriate groups and leaders
* Identify and develop merchant leaders who are promotable throughout the Nordstrom Merchandising Group and beyond
This position reports to the VP Cross-Divisional Assortment Strategy and supports a team of direct reports.
You own this if you have
* 7 10+ years of prior work experience in retail planning/inventory management or related experience
* Demonstrated understanding of retail and the service environment of Nordstrom
* Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
* Strong Collaboration with a demonstrated ability to influence beyond the scope of position
* Excellent verbal and precise written communication skills with attention to detail
* Proficiency in MS Office suite
