Position Description
The Project Manager Engineer will predominantly lead and manage small and mid-sized projects as well as oversee the mechanical integrity program at the site. Position reports to the Manager of Engineering. This position is located at Kinder Morgan's Galena Park Splitter Facility in Galena Park, Texas.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities
* Support the Galena Park Splitter (100,000 barrel/day processing facility) and five transmix plants (<10,000 barrels/day each).
* Project manage small and mid-sized capital projects (examples include modifying piping on process units to accommodate process changes and installing a backup power generator and associated equipment with one that our electrical subject matter experts have specified)
* Project manage unit heat exchanger cleanings (typically 1-2 done annually on each of the two Splitter units, each takes about 6 days to complete and involves shutting down the process unit)
* Support / project manage about 3 transmix unit turnarounds annually (small processing units located in different parts of the country, each takes about 5 days to complete)
* Oversee the mechanical integrity program (~25% of the job):
* Develop the plan for and manage 10 year site turnaround which will occur in late 2024
* Develop cost estimates, work plans, and schedules; track and report on project progress and performance
* Review commitments and expenditures, ensure maintenance of accurate forecasts, and report on monthly project performance reports
* Manage the planning, scheduling, and execution of projects to meet Kinder Morgan standards and policies, comply with all applicable codes, standards, specifications and regulations, and best practices.
* Backup Maintenance Manager and Technical Manager
* Provide rotating equipment expertise
* Work with third party inspectors to take UT readings of condition monitoring location (CML) point
* Enter readings into plant Integrity, Testing and Preventative Maintenance (ITPM) software
* Ensure other aspects of our mechanical integrity program are followed
* Expand risk based inspections
* Ensure projects/activities conform with engineering requirements and related contractual and compliance requirements, including coordinating and managing the work of all consultants/contractors/vendors on projects
* Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety as well as the safety of employees, the general public, and Company assets
* Job level will be commensurate with experience and industry knowledge .
Position Requirements
Education
* Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is required (other engineering disciplines will also be considered)
* Certifications such as project management, API inspector, and/or PE are desirable but not required
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
* A minimum of 5 years' experience in project management
* Experience working with mechanical integrity is strongly preferred
* Refinery or other plant experience is strongly preferred
* Must have full complement of project management skills including project scoping and estimating utilizing work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control, design and construction management, procurement and permitting
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:
* Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company
* Candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and complete a background check after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed
Competencies, Skills and Abilities:
* Experience in a PSM (Process Safety Management) facility desired
* Follow MOC (Management of Change) and PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Review) practices
* Must possess well-balanced interpersonal skills and demonstrable verbal and written communication skills.
* Must have organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.
* Must be a problem solver with the ability to find good solutions to difficult problems.
* Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.
* Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
* Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook is required.
* Must be accountable to and take direction from leadership, focus attention on details, keep required work schedules and follow work rules
Physical Demands:
* Must have the ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Reach overhead for items, stoop, bend and twist while working. Other physical activities include seeing, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data, operate and computer and read.
Working Conditions:
* Must be willing and able to work outside in the plant environment, in all types of climatic conditions
* Will office at the Galena Park Splitter (Galena Park, TX)
* Occasional travel to other field or corporate locations may be required depending on nature of ongoing work activities (approximately 10%)
* Subject to PHMSA compliant drug testing program
* Must be willing and able to carry a cell phone and to respond when contacted
