Ocala Health encompasses Ocala Regional Medical Center, a 256-bed facility located in the heart of Ocala, and West Marion Community Hospital, a 174-bed hospital located in west Marion County, Summerfield ER, a freestanding emergency department located in southern Marion County, and Maricamp ER, a freestanding emergency department located on Maricamp Road in Ocala. Ocala Regional Medical Center is a Level II Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The hospitals offer a host of other quality and award winning services including orthopedic care and joint replacement, robotic surgery, cardiac and vascular services including open heart surgery and interventional procedures, emergency, neurological and rehabilitation services, and bariatric surgery. Ocala Health has the only Commission on Cancer approved cancer center in Marion County. Ocala Healths outpatient facilities include Family Care Specialists, a primary care network of six locations throughout Marion County; Advanced Imaging Centers; a freestanding Wound and Hyperbaric Center; a Senior Wellness Community Center; and three surgical and physician specialty practices.
POSITION GOAL:
To provide safe and effective nursing care, through the performance of specific duties, as the surgical technologist during surgical and other invasive procedures under the direction of a registered nurse. Performs routine scrub as well as specifically delegated duties according to AORN standards and established policies and procedures of the Department of Surgery. Assists in the maintenance of a safe environment for all. Keeps current with operating room techniques, procedures, instruments, supplies and equipment; assists with the on-going Performance Improvement Program.
The Specialty Surgical Technician also may:
* Serve as clinical expert in a specialty field such as neurology, orthopaedics, and/or cardiovascular services
* Act as service coordinator for one approved service.
* Mentor/precept new scrub technician
* Act as project lead for service projects within the perioperative department

Qualifications
Position Requirements:
1. Licensure/Certification/Registration:
* National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and/or recent OR experience preferred
* BLS certification on hire (American Heart Association)
* Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities
* Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal & external customer.
B. Education: Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology preferred
C. Experience:
* Recent OR experience preferred.
* Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities
* Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal & external customer.
D. Special Qualifications: Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Knowledge of surgical procedures and medical terminology.
Degree of Supervision Required: Involves general guidance and direction by RN Circulators, OR Supervisor, and/ or OR Manager/ Director Perioperative Services. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
