Position Summary: This position supports all the values and mission of North Suburban Medical Center. The EKG technician operates an electrocardiogram machine for inpatients, outpatients and emergency calls for use in the diagnosis of cardiac disorders and cardiac rhythm disturbances. The EKG tech assists physicians with stress tests, stress echos, pharmacological stress testing, Tilt Table Tests and other non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures according to departmental demands, to include placing Holter/Event monitors. Other ancillary duties related to the position, to include, but are not limited to, downloading Holter monitors, MUSE Editing, participation in Quality Measures related to departmental activities, inventory and stocking of supplies, entering patient data and charges daily upon completion of the test, preparing exercise data and related paperwork for physician interpretation and processing.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

1. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

AHA or ARC BLS required. Certified Cardiographic Technician preferred.

2. Education:
3. Experience: 1 year Experience preferred from a hospital or clinical setting.
4. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic Knowledge of 12 lead EKGs, Holter monitoring equipment, stress testing, and event monitor recordings. Must have basic computer skills, great communication skills to communicate effectively with peers, patients and physicians. Must provide safe patient care, as well as, display appropriate judgement and problem solving skills.

Degree of Supervision Required:

Involves general guidance and direction by the Director/Supervisor of EKG. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with the established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Orientation Period:

Minimum of two weeks contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by department supervisor/ designee.
