Job Summary:

The News Operations intern rotates between various Operations departments, helping with support functions and learning what's involved with bringing together various workflows and technologies to facilitate the production of news stories. These teams include Editing/Editing Operations, Ingest, News Acquisition Center (NAC), our Live Desk, and Video on Demand (VOD). Together these teams are involved in the various aspects of acquiring video from all over the world, making that content available for production, and delivering it back out to our viewers (live and via VOD).

As an intern, you will be exposed to many areas of both long-form and breaking news operations, including editing, live video transmission, ingest, live streaming and live-channel playout automation, scheduling and training of editors, preparation and delivery of VOD assets to partners. You are expected to be hands-on, and your responsibilities will increase as you learn throughout the internship.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life

* Rotate between the News Acquisition, Editing, Ingest, Live Streaming, VOD teams. Learn what each of those teams do and make hands-on contributions.
* Assist Digital Operations Managers with ongoing responsibilities including Payroll and Scheduling
* Learn and use various systems, including: IP video transmission tools, scheduling software, ingest software, non-linear editing, live production switchers, routers, graphics systems, playout automation systems etc.

Basic Qualifications:

What you bring to the role

* Proficiency in non-linear video editing with strong preference towards AVID editing software
* A strong ability to collaborate and be part of a team but also self-sufficient with tasks
* A basic understanding of television production
* Proficiency in Excel and cloud productivity suites (Google Docs I Office 365)
* Experience working at a student television station, video production club or other related extracurricular activities

Preferred Qualifications:

* Undergraduate students in their Junior, Senior year or recent graduates
* Previous experience (academic or internship)
* Using Media Pulse/Xytech scheduling systems
* Morpheus Playout Automation experience
* Bonded IP transmission experience (TVU, LiveU, Dejero, etc)
* Live streaming (social media, Twitch, etc)

Additional Information:

* At the time of application, must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 18 months OR currently participating in a Disney Professional Internship
* Must be at least 18 years of age
* Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program, concurrent to this internship
* Must possess unrestricted work authorization

Work Environment

* This internship is a remote internship. The internship requires a working, reliable internet connection as well as a quiet, dedicated work space.
* The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2021 through August 2021
* Candidate must be available to work full time hours in Eastern Standard time for the duration of the internship
