General Summary:

Stop Loss is seeking an experienced Operations officer to build out Unums Stop Loss Operation; a fast-growing and exciting segment to be a part of at Unum. The candidate will build the internal operations of this new business to support the Distribution and Underwriting functions. It will require proven operational expertise and discipline while operating in more of a start-up environment. The role is a key member of the Stop Loss leadership team that is collectively charged with achieving the business financials and strategic plans for Stop Loss. The position also includes people management responsibilities in leading a team that supports various functions within the Stop Loss operating model. This position will work directly with distribution partners (reps and brokers) and will have strong influence and decision-making authority with our third-party partner. Ultimately, this position is responsible for ensuring operational readiness as Unum transitions from our third-party partner to internal ownership key operational functions

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

* Continue to build out Unums Stop Loss operations by supporting the hiring, onboarding and managing of new talent; overseeing various workstreams driving the delivery of accurate and timely quotes; and identifying/implementing key improvements operational processes and tools.
* Develop and own all operational process, workflow, metrics, reporting, etc.
* Learn the stop loss business through tactical day-to-day activities across risk, operations, marketing, product, legal, distribution and finance as well as through self-initiated research and industry expert interviews.
* Maximize Stop Loss talent through effective hiring, coaching, candid feedback, and facilitation of opportunities for team members across the organization to grow professionally and personally both inside and outside the organization.
* Participate in the collective ownership of overall financial results by supporting the effective management of attaining short-term goals while operating with a constant focus on achieving the organizations broader and long-term objectives.
* Operate with a high degree of autonomy inclusive of making decisions with significant financial impact while owning the results that aggregate under your broad span of control.
* Maximize outcomes for the organization by personally challenging the way business is done and proactively bringing solutions forward. In addition, foster a work culture where change is embraced, diversity and diversity of thought is expected, and taking smart risks is encouraged.
* Develop, drive, and own key strategic initiatives through the stages of design, implementation, and execution while constantly seeking feedback and measuring the value added to the business.

Job Specifications

* Bachelors degree
* 10+ years of experience running an operation preferably in the insurance industry
* Ability to be tactical as well as thinking broadly about the business
* Strong interpersonal skills in leading team(s) that support the operations for the business
* Strong customer service mentality
* Ability to develop unified internal and external working relationships
* Ability to balance multiple priorities and workstreams as well as adapt promptly to change
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong prioritizing and organization skills
* High energy individual with a strong operations background preferably in the Medical/Stop Loss space or within the insurance industry market who can absorb, balance and evaluate big picture outcomes along with critical details
* Strategic and critical thinker with a demonstrated ability to utilize data and analysis not only to make effective day-to-day business decisions, but also to recognize trends and set direction for the organization. Must have a high degree of comfort operating with ambiguity when making these decisions.
* Ability to quickly build and maintain strong balanced relationships with both external partners and internal key stakeholders with whom the strength of these respective relationships will be a key to success.
* Highly proficient communicator who can easily flex their style to a wide variety of audiences to deliver messages, position decisions, influence appropriately, and negotiate positive business outcomes most effectively.
* Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills that allow one to juggle multiple priorities and quickly pivot as business needs rapidly change while always delivering results.
