Palo Verde Behavioral Health (PVBH) is an 84 bed private psychiatric facility providing inpatient and intensive outpatient psychiatric services through treatment programs tailored to our patients needs for the purpose of creating positive outcomes. PVBH builds on the excellent skills of our current Psychiatrists, licensed registered nurses, clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors and support services team to enhance our programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Behavioral Health Technician provides basic nursing care, aids with activities of daily living, and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment, under the direction and supervision of the Hospital Supervisor and the assigned RN to the unit within the job modifications and work restrictions outlined by their physician. Provides care for patients with: depression/suicidal impulses, Mania, delusions/hallucinations, paranoia, anxiety, aggressive/assaultive behavior, chemical dependency issues/Detox, personality disorders (including borderline, sociopath, eating disorders, PTSD), and/or dementia/Alzheimer's.

Qualifications

::JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Minimum two (2) years of education focused on nursing, psychology, social service, medicine or related field preferred. Completion of EMT, CNA, Medical Assistant, Security training program or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Experience in a psychiatric setting preferred.

PRIMARY CRITERIA/RESPONSIBILITIES: Consistently provides supervision for assigned patients. Ensures safety of patient at all times. Completes rounds and clearly documents observations of patient behavior. Follows appropriate observation level for patient: every 15 minutes, visual observation, 1:1, and/or elopement precautions. Consistently records and/or reports to the Unit RN, Charge Nurse any treatments, results, observations, patient complaints, and other pertinent information regarding the condition of the patient. Obtains accurate vital signs, weight and height, intake and output, recognizes changes and documents information appropriately. Notifies Charge/Staff Nurse of patients with potential risk of injury due to falls, self-destructive, or assaultive behavior. Communicates the potential risk of patient injury to others. Utilizes most facilitative measures to de-escalate patients, such as 1:1 conversation (1:1), diversional activities, groups, peer support, decreased stimuli and possible physical restraints Regularly assumes responsibility for patient clothing and personal property by securing items in accordance with established procedures; accurately notes and provides safe care for patient valuables. Ensures Patients Rights and Confidentiality are maintained.

Knowledge/Skills and Expectations: Must be able to interact positively with patients, staff and visitors on a daily basis whose behavior may be difficult, uncooperative or aggressive. Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions; Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures; Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion; MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITON: Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency annually Must complete all required mandatory certifications and in services annually. Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually or chest x-ray tri-annually thereafter. Must be certified in Handle with Care (HWC) within the first three (3) months of hire and bi-annually thereafter. Must be able to obtain a AZ Class 1 Fingerprint clearance card with in (3) months of the hire date Must be at least 21 years of age.
