Hill Crest Behavioral Health is currently seeking an energetic and dynamic professional to join our team as a Mental Health Tech. (MHT). The Mental Health Tech (MHT) is the clinical staff member who has interaction with patients on a daily basis. He/she presents good communication and observation skills as well as the ability to accurately process and document information.

- SHIFT - Every Other Weekend 7am-7pm + 3(8's) 3pm-11pm

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

* Completes and accurately documents walking rounds or at a minimum every fifteen (15) minutes or as designated by the physician.
* Diligently observes patients in order to anticipate and prevent or de-escalate destructive, aggressive, or violent behavior.
* Understands and demonstrates therapeutic communication, i.e., avoids power struggles and remains calm during crisis situations.
* Documents patient behavior in progress notes and notifies appropriate nursing staff of information.
* Follows program policies concerning patient searches, contraband, and restricted items. Assists in or initiates search of all new patients. Also ensures that any patient who has left the facility for any reason is searched upon return.
* Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety/security, patients' rights and comfort in a therapeutic environment.
* Assists patients with activities of daily living, encouraging independent behavior when appropriate. Also assists as directed with feeding, bathing, dressing, and ambulating.
* Demonstrates proper technique for taking vital signs (digitally and manually). Measures weights as directed by the Nurse. Maintains growth chart as appropriate or as ordered by the Physician. Administers hearing and vision assessments as directed.
* Monitors patios; before returning to the unit, checks for lingering patients; makes sure that all patients are accounted for before the patio is locked
* Sets limits on patient behavior with the assistance of the Nurse and Senior MHT as per Master Treatment Plan.
* Demonstrates awareness and understanding of patient precautions: Homicide, Suicide, Assault, and Elopement.
* Accepts assignment sheet at the beginning of the shift and reviews information documented in the hand-off communication from the exiting staff. Becomes familiar with patients' diagnoses and current behavior patterns

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Minimum High School diploma or equivalent required
* One year of experience in a psychiatric setting/patient care preferred
* Experience in leading basic group or Mater Treatment Plan preferred
* Good communication skills, i.e., reading, writing, and speaking
* Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions
* Good leadership qualities which includes self-control, patience, and empathy
* New hires are required to attend 2 full weeks of New Employee Orientation on day shift, normally 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
* Must successfully pass background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check) and drug screen.
