Responsibilities

Clarion Psychiatric Center offers inpatient treatment for adults with moderate to severe psychiatric problems, inpatient crisis stabilization for children and adolescents, and a Partial Hospitalization Program for school-aged children. Our recently expanded 112-bed inpatient program has 4 units. Qualifications

Job Description: Responsible for assisting the DON with the management of the nursing department to include but not be limited to: program and personnel development, management, evaluation, coordination and integration of hospital services, budget and cost control; census development, ensuring the development of and maintaining of the Standards of Nursing Practice. Maintain knowledge of social, economic and legal issues pertaining to the delivery of patient care. Is aware of the Pennsylvania Mental Health Procedures Act, CMS, DPW and JCAHO as it pertains to all departments supervised.

Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/ or ability required. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with licensure in the State of Pennsylvania. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field or certification in psychiatric care preferred. Must have demonstrated ability in psychiatric nursing practice and administration.

Experience: Previous management experience preferred. Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in inpatient mental health services.

Knowledge / Skills: Must have demonstrated proficiency in psychiatric nursing practice and management skills. Demonstrate strong clinical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated excellence in leadership and interpersonal skills.

Supervision Exercised: Directly Supervises: All Nursing Staff on all units as needed

Supervision Received: ADON, Don, and CEO

General Working Environment: Hospital setting. Staff working in this position may be required to intervene and assist with aggressive patients. Works in a well-lighted and ventilated setting, is subject to frequent interruptions, and is involved with the patients and personnel throughout designated unit under varying conditions and circumstances. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV and Hepatitis B Viruses

Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be able to walk and stand for long periods. Able to participate in crisis prevention intervention. The Physical Requirements described herein are representative of those, which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job.
