Position Summary:
Primarily responsible for delivering product to customers operating a straight truck 24 feet long or smaller.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Drive a variety of route assignments to cover for vacations and absences at least 50% of the time
* Sort freight, load truck and verify packages against the manifest according to route sequence daily using all equipment necessary including pallet jacks, hand trucks, pallets, skids and hand held scanners
* Handles all deliveries for the day and turns all delivery receipts to the appropriate supervisor at the end of the shift
* Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle being operated daily prior to leaving from and returning to the SDO
* Deliver the merchandise to the customers (Residential and Commercial), in a prompt, safe, business like and friendly manner; top priority should be given to taking care of the customers needs
* Use a hand held package scanner in the delivery process as required
* Obtain accurate electronic or paper POD (Proof of Delivery) for each delivery
* Drive the truck in a safe, lawful and courteous manner always remembering that the people will judge us by the way you handle the vehicle
* Conduct business in a professional and courteous manner
* Keep the truck and associated equipment in proper working order; report any problems to the Supervisor; keep the cab and cargo area clean and free of clutter
* Process all non-delivered and customer returns following correct procedures, upon return to the SDO at the end of the day
* Submit all required PODs, non-delivery, return information and reports to the appropriate Supervisor daily
* Regular attendance
* Work as a team member by interacting and communicating with fellow associates in a cooperative, constructive manner
* Pick up and accept merchandise returns and/or damages
* When help assigned (Driver or Driver Helper), maintain responsibility for truck and equipment; lead daily completion of work and report questions/issues to SDO Supervisor right away
Qualifications
Basic:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Obtain a D.O.T. medical card
* 1-3 years of driving experience in a service oriented position
* Must be at least 21 years of age
* Valid drivers license (no major moving violations as described in the employment application supplement and in accordance with applicable state law)
* Basic English language skills (both verbal and written communications)
* Math and mechanical aptitude
* Able to navigate and read a map
* Must have excellent customer service skills/satisfaction
* Must be a team player and able to work well with minimum supervision
* Must be able to lift, push or pull equipment/merchandise weighing between 70 lbs. and 100 lbs
* Must be willing to wear a Staples uniform and present a clean, neat appearance
* Passing a background and/or drug screen may be required
Preferred:
* PC and Microsoft Office knowledge
