The Quality Laboratory Technician identifies and measures chemicals and materials that are used for chemical processing/metal finishing and quality control. Sample types include organic and inorganic compositions; aqueous and non-aqueous materials; and metals.
The Quality Laboratory Technician uses a variety of physical, wet chemical, and instrumental methods and techniques both qualitative and quantitative/semi-quantitative to identify and characterize solution composition (i.e., elements/constituents and their concentrations) and performance properties (i.e., process effectiveness) to establish and maintain process control and conformance to Customer engineering specification requirements.
Responsibilities
* Conducts basic and complex analyses of raw material and production samples using approved analytical methods and techniques. Objective is to ensure that control of solution composition and chemical processing performance is maintained. Prepares accurate and complete records of work performed.
* Sets up and operates laboratory equipment and chemical instrumentation, such as spectrometers (e.g., ICP-OES), chromatographic instruments (e.g., ion chromatograph), and standard QA/QC measurement and test equipment, such as surface roughness and coating thickness instruments. Use of computer software/applications is often required for the operation of the equipment and/or analysis of results.
* Researches and analyzes material, test, and process specification requirements and definitions.
* Investigates and makes recommendations with respect to the cause and resolution of equipment and instrument issues or malfunctions. Performs limited equipment and instrument repair and maintenance where appropriate.
* Assists management in prioritizing and coordinating daily laboratory activities based on communication with other departments.
* Conducts investigations of laboratory incidents and the investigation of out-of-specification and out-of-trend test results. Documents the results of these investigations in a clear, accurate and concise fashion.
* Supports the implementation of corrective actions that are necessary to reduce or eliminate nonconformance to material, test, and process specification requirements.
* Critically reviews own work, and may review the work of other Laboratory staff, for accuracy and completeness.
* Performs routine housekeeping activities in the laboratory and participates in the qualification and periodic calibration of equipment.
* Able to lift 25 lbs. and move throughout the Laboratory in order to accomplish daily work assignments
Qualifications
Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
* Experience in running tanks, inspection back ground, and understanding of specifications dealing with aerospace preferred
* Familiar with process
* Secondary education preferred but not mandatory.
