What Youll Do

Coverage attorney within Payments Legal team, with responsibility for advisory and transactional matters for Discovers network businesses.

How Youll Do It

* Review, draft, and negotiate moderate complexity agreements and, with supervision, higher complexity agreements.
* Provide thoughtful and creative legal advice and guidance to internal business partners on exiting and new initiatives, existing and new requirements, emerging risks and trends, and regulatory matters impacting Discovers network businesses.
* Develop strong understanding of Discovers network businesses, payments industry, and business units assigned to her/his coverage area.
* Develops strong collaborative relationship with business and risk partners, colleagues within legal organization and others.
* Exercise prudent discretion and decision-making capabilities to draft contracts and other service agreements, complete projects, and enhance programs or processes relevant to assigned SME.
* Demonstrate leadership in taking initiative to improve the quality of team processes.
* Consult with outside counsel and subject matter experts as appropriate.
* Ensure corporate and legal guidelines regarding advisory matters and transactions are complied with. Utilizes that Discover contract management tool to manage workflow, track contracts and retain accurate contract records.
* Escalate advisory and transactional issues to management as appropriate.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, management, and parties external to Discover.
* Ensure effective risk and compliance management by adhering to required standards and processes.
* Collaborate with colleagues on the Payments Legal team and the whole Legal Organization on continuous process improvements.

Qualifications Youll Need

The Basics:

* Juris doctor degree
* 2+ years of experience in legal advisory matters and commercial transactions
* Active law license in good standing
