At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Technical Program Manager to join our team, whose mission is creating the future of input and interaction for AR and VR. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in hardware or biosensing technologies, and who can work across a highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers who are creating novel interaction technologies. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
Technical Program Manager Responsibilities
* Program manage multiple research hardware programs through phases such as program conception and scoping, hardware architecture definition, hardware design and development, system integration, system validation, and human subjects research.
* Work with research/engineering teams to identify scope, constraints, dependencies, bottlenecks, risks, timelines, and translate to an action plan.
* Define and maintain schedules, gather requirements, track resources, develop integration plans, track progress, prioritize initiatives, and proactively identify/address potential setbacks.
* Proactively identify technical, procedural, legal, logistical, and communications challenges and drive creative solutions to resolve issues and mitigate risks.
* Coordinate communications across internal and external teams, including upwards communication to team leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in the field of Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
* 4+ years experience with project/program management in a technical domain building, coordinating, and maintaining schedules and shared resources across multiple inter-disciplinary teams for hardware research or development projects.
* Track record of operating independently, demonstrating creativity, being detail-oriented, and delivering results in a highly organized manner.
* Interpersonal skills, including relationship building, communication, and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience within academic or industry research settings.
* Experience with development of novel, 0-1, hardware prototypes.
* Experience building and managing relationships with vendors and other external partners in conjunction with legal and business development.
* Familiarity with one or more of the following domains would be a bonus: AR/VR, biosensing, neuroscience, optics, HCI, consumer electronics, wearables, or softgoods manufacturing.
